Back to work again :(

This will be a short work week for me...only three days of trudging off to work while Doug gets to lay in bed and pull the covers over his head and wait until the sun comes up!!..lucky him!!!..maybe tommorrow I can coerce him into helping me take down all the Christmas "crap"..and we can start 2010 in a normal house??..not that our house will ever be normal but a girl can dream can't she??

One year ago today!!!..what a difference in 365 days??

It was one year ago today that our lives changed forever..a little golden ball of fluff came home to live with us via Chilliwack..what were we thinking????..those first few days are but a distant memory. we have now come a long way...fast forward one year and we now have a very large golden retriever who weighs about 75 pounds..a very large boy who has won a place in our hearts!!..our golden boy..who loves everyone he meets...riding in the truck..going camping and chasing a ball and poor Oliver!..

Our day was spent driving out to the outskirts of Chilliwack..Doug got a GPS for the truck from Carlie and myself for Christmas..so we thought we would run it through the paces and see how it works..Doug use to call me his SUE-SUE..supposedly I was a good navigator..but apparently not as good as LOLA!!..she proved herself today..sort of..not that we did not know where we were going..we will see when we really need her how she performs!!

After our return from our little road trip..Tucker and Doug went to the park and I went over to the lake to take a few pictures..last year at this time..everything was white ..this year..it is just frozen..no white stuff??

this was the view last year..
this was the view today

last year..??

Boxing Day 2009...the silence is deafening!!

After my post from yesterday..my dear husband was quite offended that I failed to mention the lovely breakfast that he prepared for us on Christmas Morning....on the menu was Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce, fried potatoes and orange juice..not exactly a cholesterol or calorie free breakfast but afterall it is Christmas!!..no calorie counting today!!

Our Boxing Day was a  quiet day..sunny but frosty and cold today..I only ventured outside a couple of times today..taking Tucker out for his bathroom breaks..Doug was the lucky one to take him to the park to play with his doggie friends and chase the ball...We spent the day cleaning up and doing laundry..getting the remmants of dinner cleaned up...and helping Carlie get her bedroom and bathroom organized..the girl is a rebel when it comes to keeping her 9x9 cell ( as she calls it-we call it the 'bat cave')..clean and organized..it is a  pretty difficult task to do since it is so small and she seems to accumulate a ton of stuff!!

This evening we had hot turkey sandwiches for dinner..it is great to have leftovers..one good perk for all the hard work yesterday..and then we played a few games of Mexican Train..not too sure if we are playing it correctly..the directions are a bit hard to understand so if anyone out there can explain in layman's terms we would greatly appreciate it!!

Our family dynamics issue is still unresolved....we were missing some members of our family for Christmas dinner..they chose to stay at home and not partake in the festivities..maybe by next year these issues will be resolved and the apologies will be made and we can all move forward...the lessons  learned from all of this..??..respect your elders...greet the hosts...say hello to everyone when you arrive even if the conversations are flowing....but most importantly if you have been called out because of your behavior..don't be making excuses and placing the blame on someone else, sometimes it takes a good long look in the mirror....a  sincere apology goes a long way....life is short....you can pick your friends..but you can't pick your family..no family is perfect but they are all we have..so make the most of it...the words were spoken and can't be taken back..learn the lessons and grow from it....

Happy Boxing Day everyone..bring on 2010..let's just slam the door on 2009 and move onward!!

p.s ..This  Boxing Day blog will be the last time I will vent about our family dynamics..my other options are to send an email ??..decided against that...do they read this blog?..don't know for sure??.thought I would vent here instead....a phone call.??..would have been the next option but they have call display so I doubt they would answer when our phone number came up..so on that happy note..say adios to family disagreements..stay tuned ..the next time I talk about this situation will be when we are the perfect family once again..or when "pigs fly".. :)

Stressed!!

Well here it is only a few days left until Christmas..am I ready?..sort of..the present shopping is done..the turkey is thawing in the fridge.I still need to get a few more groceries...the presents still need wrapping and I am still waiting to hear about one other gift that is yet to be completed..

Our weekend was spent doing the usual activities..cooking, cleaning, shopping..I did manage to clean up four closets on Sunday afternoon though..a little re-organizing does wonders for the 'control-freak in me'.

This Christmas has not been an easy one to get excited about..it just seems to be stressful holiday..family dynamics and such have not made it too pleasant..we only have to hope for the best..and move on from there..dont know if it is going to be a perfect Hallmark Christmas but we will make the most of it!!

We will learn from our mistakes and hope others will too..sometimes it may just be better to 'bite your tongue' and deal with other's behaviours..but you know sometimes you just have to say something even if it is going to hurt someone's feelings....learn from the criticism...improve the behaviour and all would be right with the world.!!  But it seems that stubborness runs in the family so we will just leave things as they are..and can hope that next year things will be different...

Procrastination!!

Christmas Eve is now one week away!!..am I done shopping? NOPE..I thought I would be smart and do some of the major purchases on-line..well one package arrived with five items in it..and two of them were broken..so we had to head out to the actual store and see if we could exchange these two items..we got one new one and the other will be shipped in 5-10 business days..:(   My other two on-line purchases?..one is ready and I am still waiting to hear on the other one..should be ready next week!!..talk about last minute. I still have a few other items to buy..so I will head to the Coquitlam Center on Saturday morning..walking not driving..the parking lot will probably be so full that I would be parking almost at home anyway!!

Bring it on..ready or not..not much we can do about it!!

facebook??

After many days of wondering..should I or shouldn't I ..I did it...hit the deactivate button on my facebook account....what a relief..the world did not stop turning and  I did not get sucked into a big black hole..it's a miracle!!!..I may be back in 2010..but then again maybe not....if you are at all interested in what we are up to..just check the blog..this is where we will be!!!..say no to CRACKBOOK!!

Have a great day everyone..time to make dinner!!

holiday decorating!!

Our home is all decked out for the holidays..the garlands are done..the tree is up..wreath is on the door and the lights are on the balcony railing..four bins later and two days worth of work ..and the house is done!!

Doug has now informed me that once we go full-timing I will only be allowed one bin of Christmas "Crap"..as he lovingly  calls it..how am I suppose to decide what to keep and what to give away??..this will be a hard one when it comes time to purge..well at least I  have 2010...2011..2012 and 2013 to decide..???

Saturday, December 12, 2009

Our day began not too early this morning..I slept till 10 am which is the latest I have slept in  a long time..must have needed those extra few hours..anyhoo..our day was filled with laundry, housework and blowing the dust of the Christmas decorations..the garlands are all done, wreath on the door and the tree is up..all that is left is the lights on the balcony railing outside..that will be done tommorrow..we need to get an extension cord from FREEWAY tommorrow to complete that task..

This evening we met our friends, Steve and Melanie for a pasta dinner at Anducci's..about a 20 minute drive from our house and theirs in North Vancouver..so about in the middle for both of us..we had a great time catching up with these dear friends..last time we saw them was at the Olive Garden in September..we seem to be able to pick up where we left off and the conversation just flows...it is like no time has past..  We had salad, pasta and wine..a fine evening was had by all!!!..we plan to meet again on New Year's Eve for an early dinner...more to look forward too!!!

Tommorrow our day will be spent getting groceries and our usual Sunday activities...and then on to another week of working..the weather here is still hovering at the freezing point..no white stuff fallling from the sky as yet..but it is in forecast for the next couple of days so we will just have to see if it actually comes to be ??

Tucker and Santa Paws!!

Here is the photo of Tucker and Santa Paws taken last Saturday..he was not impressed with this first encounter with the man in the red suit..reminded us of Carlie when she was little and her first two visits to Santa..maybe next year he will behave better???

a dog day of winter??

Today was the one year anniversary of when our lives changed for the  "four-legged " better..On December 6th, 2008 we drove east to Chilliwack to pick out our new golden retriever  puppy.. a little bundle of golden fluff with four little paws ....we named him "Tucker" on this day..he was so tired..all 'tuckered out'

Our focus is now on dog kennels, leashes, collars dog food and puppy pads..what were we thinking??

fast forward one year and that brings us to today..our dog day of winter..the temperature was in the -2 celcius range..a run in Munday Park with his 'girfriend' Emme..a dip in an icy puddle..a frozen tail ..silly boy...

Our afternoon was spent at Costco and the Stormtech Factory Outlet..Doug needed a warmer winter coat..rather than dressing in layers..we then went to Uptown Dog in Port Mooody for a picture with Santa Paws..Tucker was not too impressed with his first meeting with Santa..  Uptown Dog is a doggy daycare center and they had a Christmas party for all the poochies..door prizes and goodies ..sensory overload for our boy...then it was off to the Doggy Park to chase the ball and a walk around Rocky Point Park

Our next stop on this busy Sunday was the "Light the Lake" celebration at Lafarge Lake..two hot drinks and quick stroll around the lake and we were done for the day..done with the gloves and toques..a clear, windy day but very brisk...glad to be indoors beside the fireplace watching our favourite Sunday night shows...

P.S..a very happy birthday to my Mom..hope you had a great day!!..We love you...!!!

A fluffy day??

Yesterday when we got home from work, Tucker of course was very happy to see us..toy in his mouth doing his happy dance..dont know if he actually happy to see us or has to go to the bathroom..anyway..he has been having the full run of the house since we got back from vacation in September..where is this going you ask??

Well.. I use to have five ..yes five toss cushions..two for the couch and two for love seat and one for the big chair..we are now down to two!!..fluff everywhere!!..bad poochie once again!!!..does he have toys..yes!!..but he seems to have thing about stuffies..he has ruined every soft toy he has ever had..he even took the nose off of the 'golden retriever dog' we have had since 1995..no more soft toys for this 'savage'..although we were thinking they make those ones with no stuffing..the long, flat ones.. ..maybe we could give that a try??..I really think it is the cat that he would like to unstuff but can't so the next best thing is the anything he can sink his bright white teeth into!!

On a weather note..for the month of November..if you have been reading along you know I have mentioned numerous times as to the fact that we are being deluged with rain..well I am happy to report that our forecast for the next five days is clear and cold..and no rain!!!..YIPPEE!!..there was this bright light in the sky today and we were all wondering what it was?????????..we will take it while we can....

Silence is golden!!

Yet another wet and rainy weekend here in Coquitlam..our work week is done and Friday night was spent doing housework and laundry.  Today was a quiet day at home..Carlie was off to a baby shower and a girls sleepover..Doug and I spent the day relaxing at home..watching the rain come down and taking turns taking Tucker outside for his bathroom breaks..We watched T.V....our usual saturday shows this morning..and tonight the T.V is switching back and forth between the hockey game and Lockup...nothing to much to report otherwise..just nice to be at home and inside..we are thankful to have a roof over our heads and food in the fridge..everything else will fall into place..we are getting use the the SILENCE....one day at a time and we will go from there...

I have made four loaves of cranberry nut bread and five loaves of pumpkin bread this evening..next weekend we will be thinking of blowing the dust off the Christmas decorations??..maybe??..the flood repairs are not done as yet..so we will have to see if they call this week??

Tommorrow?..we are off to Mundy Park, grocery shopping and a visit to FREEWAY to check and make sure all is well out there!!..then it will be time to get organized for another week..our life is so exciting at the moment..we are living vicariously through our fulltiming RV friends ..sun and sand for them!!..rain and puddles for us!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to our American Readers!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our American readers..hope you all enjoy your turkey dinner and time with your families!!..for us Canadians it is just another work day..and one more day closer  to Christmas..time to get organized and get on with the shopping and the decorating??..

Well the  decorating has to wait until the flood repairs are done which is suppose to be next week..we will just have to wait and see if they show up and start working??.

As  I mentioned in a previous blog..we bought a new refridgerator but we still have the old one sitting in the entrance of our condo..along with a thirty year old freezer..1-800-GOT-JUNK is coming tommorrow to pick up those two appliances..it will be nice to have them gone..our original plan was for BC Hydro to come and pick them up but that would not have been till mid-December..we are an impatient bunch and need it gone now!!!..we only can hope that they will be recycled and not thrown in a land-fill..

hiding behind the keyboard???

I have started to notice how little we are in actual communication with people and how much we depend on the technology of today.  We are very quick to send an email, a text message, or post a message on facebook  rather than have a face to face conversation.

Does this mean that we say things we wouldn't say if the person were standing right in front of us???.. I would hope that we have not come to that..sometimes it is easier to write down your thoughts in an email..no interruptions that way!!

I would hope that society has not  gotten to the point that we don't know how to actually talk to people.  I know that most of the time I would rather send an email than pick up the phone and talk to someone..it just seems easier and I have gotten to the point where I find the phone annoying and hiding behind the keyboard is easier.

Emails can be done at anytime and the phone?..well you can only phone people until a certain time...I can send a message at midnight...I love that!!

So if you get an email from me??..it is just a "one sided conversation"..one day the phone calls will start again but for now..you will find me "hiding behind the keyboard"..is there fault with that??..I don't think so..!!

The Rainbow Bridge
by

Author Unknown

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Second annual cross border shopping trip!!

This morning we embarked on our second annual cross border shopping trip..Carlie, Robbie and me...We headed out early this morning towards Mission, to meet up with Robbie..We all piled into her car and headed south towards the Sumas border crossing.
After crossing the border we were heading towards the Seattle Premium Outlet Mall at the Tulalip Casino..our first stop was the Walmart and then it was time for the OutletMall..we had some success and found a few items that we loaded in the back of the car..Lunch time now ..at the casino..three for the buffet!!..it was delicious..time for the penny slots..Carlie loaded in $12..Robbie $20 and me, $10..the big winner was Carlie..$82..Robbie $32 and me??..LOSER!!..darn it!!!

We cashed in the big winnings and then headed north on the I-5..next stop the Burlington Outlet Mall..one pair of boots and a scarf and we were off to Bellis Fair Mall..a few more purchases and it was time to head on back to Canada..all in all a successful day..spent some, won some and lost some....a great time was had by all!!

Back at home..Doug was waiting for the delivery of our new side by side fridge..will it fit or won't it???..yes it did..it is a tight fit but it fits!!..yeah..!!!..now we can get rid of our old fridge and the 30 year old freezer!!!..and fill the new one!!!

how do you want to spend your dash??

http://www.simpletruths.tv/dashpoem/

The Dash..a poem that  I have read before and heard at a funeral..it is worth the read..makes you think that it is not about when you were born or when you die..it's all about the dash!!

another rainy day!!

This morning we woke to the normal torrential downpour..great..another wet day here we come..a wet stinky dog, wet umbrellas..just an all round wet day!!..but the one good thing is that is FRIDAY!!..

Plans for the weekend.?? .Carlie and I are heading south to Washington to go shopping for the day with my friend Robbie. We are leaving early in the morning so at least we can make a day of it....and Doug will stay home and wait for our brand new fridge to be delivered..hope it fits in the space!!..it is gonna be a tight fit..more on that tommorrow..pictures to follow!!

So as the rain is still falling..the thunder and lightning has stopped..time for bed...gotta get up early..no sleeping in for me !!...what was I thinking??????

Anywhere but here!!

For some bizarre reasons this has been a very difficult few weeks..the rains and winds of November are upon us..its is dark when we leave for work and dark when we get home..We know it will be a few more months before we are out in FREEWAY once again..

We have been living vicariously through our RVing friends..one  in Port Orford, Oregon for the winter and the other in the hills of Tennessee in their brand new 40 foot Winnebago...heading towards Kansas..how we wish we were them!!!..I think it is going to be a LONG winter for us...safe travels to them and keep writing and posting the pictures..we need something to keep us focused!!..So as the rains of the west coast are upon us..we will settle in for our dinner, laundry and some televsion shows and then back to work once again tommorrow!!..knowing that one day it will be our turn to escape the 'rat race of working for a living'.

Friday, November 13, 2009

November 13th..FRIDAY!!..the long and the short of it!!

As another work week comes to an end..this was a short one..two days for me!..thursday and friday..I was off the rest of the week..what a treat that was!!

I spent my two vacation days doing housework, laundry and the usual house duties..I did trip over the vacumm cleaner cord and land flat on my face.{it was the root and wheelchair issue all over again}...good thing no one was home to see that performance..just the beloved Tucker!!..he came  to my rescue..at least he did not have to call 911..

My  second day off was a lunch date with my daughter and sister..I ventured into the big city of Vancouver..,taking the bus, skytrain and another bus to get to Broadway and Hemlock..we had a delicious lunch at Boston Pizza..great to catch up with my sister..have not seen her since May??..Carlie of course, I see every day!!

And as today is Friday the 13th..we are glad to be home safe and sound with  no major catastrophies to mention..thank goodness

No big plans this weekend..maybe a new fridge purchase tommorrow..I am getting tired of cleaning up pools of water in the bottom of the one we have now.. and items at the back of the fridge are frozen and they shouldn't be!..it is the orginal fridge so it is 14 years old..maybe that is not old for a fridge??.we have a freezer that is 30 years old..but that does not give me any grief..so it can stay for a bit longer!!

In closing..I have come to the conclusion that I am not meant to have a head of long flowing hair.. for the last few  weeks I had more bad hairs days than good ones.. I headed off to the hair salon last Friday  and now have my short hair back again..yippee...I was the lucky receipient of lots of compliments so I know I made the correct decision..short cut for me from now!!!..no more pathetic ponytails..it is freeing to have short hair again..and to quote a fellow blogger.."a good hair day is priceless"..so I know now I will be one of those fulltiming women who are always looking for a  good hair salon out on the road!!

a day of remembrance....even though it falls on wordless wednesday..

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved, and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

-- John McCrae

The poppy reminds us of the people who gave their lives for peace and freedom. The poppy reminds us of war and the great costs it brings society and that peace is something we should strive for beyond all things.
The poppy is a symbol of peace and it reminds us of the people who died for us. The poppy means red blood from the men who died in battle.

New Motto for 2010..starting early!!!

Someone will always be prettier.

Someone will always be smarter.

Some of their houses will be bigger..

Some will drive a better car.

Their children will do better in school.

And their husband will fix more things around the house.

So let it go, and love you and your circumstances .

Think about it!

The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart.

The most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have children.

The richest woman you know, she's got the car, the house, the clothes~ might be lonely.

And the Word says, 'If I have not Love, I am nothing.' So, again, love you.

Love who you are.

Look in the mirror in the morning and smile and say,

'I am too Blessed to be Stressed and too Anointed, to be Disappointed!'

'Winners make things happen~~ Losers let things happen.'

.

Sunday, Sunday Sunday!!!

Another weekend is now over..do they ever go fast!!
We were up early this morning and off to our usual walking trails..in the rain and the mud.. but fun was had by the four legged friends..then it was off to IHOP for our Sunday breakfast.
.
This afternoon we went out to the storage lot and finished winterizing FREEWAY..the job is finally complete..three weekends in the making but we finally got it all done.

Then it was off to the town of Langley and the PetSmart Store..Tucker needs some new toys..he has destroyed everything in his path..even the toss cushions from the couch..stuffing everywhere..he had a great time, even though I am sure that Oliver, the cat was probably sitting watching him..thinking.."YOU  IDIOT.. you are gonna be in big trouble when Mom and Dad get home!"

We also stopped in at the Sears Home store, we are in need of a new fridge and the choices are endless....ice maker, bottom freezer, top freezer, side by side??..{we don't have room for a really large one..so there will be no ice falling in the middle of the night at this house!}..no decisions were made..we needed to come home and measure again to make sure on the size..the only thing we have decided on is that it has to be white..to go with all the other appliances..one decision down..one more to go!!

As the sun sets on yet another weekend...the only good thing about this weekend is that  I still have three more days off..the stress level is non-existant  for me this evening ..unlike all the other weekends when sunday evening is upon us....only one lunch to make..and the ironing and laundry can wait till tommorrow.. a few days at home, just me and the cushion ripping dog and the perfect cat!!..have a good week everyone!!!

just another rainy saturday!!

Today was a cloudy day with some rain..we are getting use to having rainy weekends..we had no real plans once agan this weekend..I wanted to travel south to Birch Bay and the Stormtech Factory Warehouse at Exit #266/Grandview..but Doug was searching on the internet and found that there was one on Boundary Road in Vancouver..not far from our condo.....so off we went this morning..Tucker in the back seat..a shopping we were gonna do!!!

We managed to get some great deals..a new coat, three shirts and a fleece vest  all for $94..a $400 value..we will definitely be back to this store..great quality and  selection..

After our shoppping was done we stopped in at Coquitlam Centre..to drop off the condo insurance papers and wander through the mall..then it was home to our bowl of tomato soup and egg sandwiches..it was lunch and dinner combined..LUNNER..since it was after three o'clock when we finally ate...it was the food that gave me the motivation to move some things around and get re-organized..furniture was moved and placed in new arrangement..all Doug had to say about the whole thing is that he knows once we have wheels under our home and I feel the need to move things around..he will have to move the trailer to change the scenery...all in good fun!!!

Tommorrow our plan is to go to Mundy Park so Tucker can have a run with his "girlfriend Emmie"..and then we will be heading out to FREEWAY to finish off the winterizing..hard to believe that a year ago tommorrow I was on a plane heading to Puerto Vallarta..for a girl's week of fun in the sun..and what fun we had....sun, sand, the pool and the "mango vallartas"..maybe next year???

Settling in..

April 16-26, 2017 The past ten days have gone by very quickly.. We got settled in the compound within a couple of days… The tent survi...
