Oregon or bust…that was our mission today…we left the condo at 530 am and were across the border in record time..after our stop at the duty free..(gotta have the ingredients for our ‘token happy hour drinks’..the only questions we were asked were: where are you going?..when are you coming back?..and do you have more that $1000 cash?
Our next stop was a pancake breakfast at IHOP in Marysville..we filled our bellies ( as we were sitting enjoying our breakfast an elderly lady and her son came in and sat behind us…when asked what she wanted to drink..she said very loudly DIET COKE PLEASE!).. it seemed rather funny to us..!! 7 am and she is having a pop…not tea or coffee??) ..after breakfast we filled ‘Freeway’ with some gas and were off again.
We continued south on the I-5 towards Seattle..we put our trust in “lola” the gps and she FINALLY got us to our next destination…a beautiful house on PINE LAKE belonging to Linda and Steven Dempsey..aka ‘the Chouters”..we have never met these fine folks until today but they welcomed us into their home like we were old friends..the internet is a wonderful tool that has allowed us to meet some warm and wonderful people! thanks Linda and Steven for being so hospitable..till we see you again for our next meeting of the 2014 class!
It was now almost 10:00 and we still had one more stop to make..Cabela’s in Lacey, Washington..we got some better directions from Linda to get to the I-5 and get us on our way…we made it there in record time..not too much traffic..one accident just south of Seattle..someone ran into the yellow barricades on the freeway..did quite a number on their car!!!..a little foot note…we have noticed that american jeep owners do actually practise the wave!!!!…YEs!!!.. this jeep in front of us gave us our first american wave!!
this photo below of Doug is for our friend “Boris”..you know why??!!!
Shopping complete..we continued on our way..into the state of Oregon..and the great traffic in the Portland area..one more traffic accident just for good measure!!
note the bumper in the middle of the road??
We finally got up to speed and reached the Tiguard turnoff and headed west towards the coast!!!..we arrived at our hotel at 5 pm the Pelican Shores is our home for the next five days....a great room with a view that made this very long drive of 670 kilometers well worth the wait…I will let rest of the pictures tell the story..more tomorrow from Lincoln City…
as the sun sets on our first day…we will fall asleep listening to the waves crashing on the shore…
