Travel day..heading north !!

Our time on the Oregon Coast is complete..we headed home this morning before 7 am..darn early…the view out of our window was calm and peaceful..the tide was way out..and there was even a few die-hards out walking the beach looking for treasures and feeding the birds…it is sad to be leaving here…

we headed north on Highway 101 towards Astoria and Longview..the one section of the 101 that we have not been on…now we can say we have driven on the complete Oregon Coast except for the very small section from Gold Beach to the California border..

crossing over the Astoria Bridge..the very long floating bridge into Washington State..

Once we were over the bridge we stopped for a bit of a break and a few more photos..we are now back in more state to go!!

We had a lunch date in Lacey, Washington..with Bruce and Margie..we have been following their blog for at least a year now..and we finally got to meet face to face..what a great meet-up..we had lunch at Cabela’s..and we spent almost two hours chatting and getting to know this lovely couple..we only wish we could have stayed longer…but the I-5 was calling our name…we parted ways and we know that we will meet these fine folks down the road one day..but until then we will follow them on their blog…

while we were in traffic we were both wishing we had booked a hotel for the night so we could have spent some more time with Bruce and Margie..…traffic was not great on the way home…from Seattle/Tacoma to Marysville?..took us three hours…at one point we were going maximum speed 3 miles an hour on the I-5…not one of  our best moments..the jeep seemed very small..that and the fact that the rest stops were few and far between as were the gas made for a long three hours…

We are finally home after being on the road..driving, stopping and visiting (which we would not change)…over 12 hours on the road..466 miles today..and a grand total of 1269 miles for the whole trip…

We saw everything we wanted to see..the only lighthouse we missed on the way home was the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse…we missed the turnoff for the Ecola State was foggy through that stretch of the highway anyway...below is a picture I took from the internet..

We are both happy to be home..and the following words will not pass our lips for at least a few days…”hey? wanna go for  a drive??”

thanks for reading along as we explored the Oregon Coast..a great little getaway..sun, sand, surf, lighthouses, capes..and meeting some ‘new old friends’

till next time…..

  1. After reading Margie's post today, I decided to follow your blog. We are not full-timers but we travel a lot in our motorhome. My husband Dave and I live in Vancouver, Washington. My blog is and Dave's blog is

We are currently visiting the Coos Bay, OR area and have posted several blogs about our trip. I enjoyed reading your blog about Oregon and Washington and will read your older posts when I have a chance.

  2. Glad you all had a great trip!! I know I have enjoyed following along and enjoyed the tour of the coast and the wonderful lighthouses.

  4. Aw, shucks! We enjoyed our time with you folks too and hope we will meet again soon. Hope Tucker was happy to see you guys! I'm sure he was. Your pics of the trip from your resort north were beautiful. Sorry that traffic was such a bummer. Seattle area is often like that, which is the main reason we try to stay south as much as possible.

  5. I re-remembered you folks after reading Margie's post this morning. Looks like I just missed the Oregon trip. I see you are Jeep folks too. We just picked up a little 2006 TJ Sport about 3 weeks ago & we are just loving it to pieces:))
