What is a ‘ragdoll cat?’

‘The Ragdoll is a cat breed with blue eyes and a distinct colorpoint coat.  It is a large and muscular semi-longhair cat with a soft and silky coat.  Developed by American breeder Ann Baker, it is best known for its docile and placid temperament and affectionate nature.  The name "Ragdoll" is derived from the tendency of individuals from the original breeding stock to go limp and relaxed when picked up.’

A ragdoll cat is a large ( up to 30 pounds) minimal shedding, non-matting loving bundle that has been equated to a feline equivalent to a dog. They follow you everywhere..even to the bathroom.

Since we were without a canine companion and we discovered that this breed was as close to a dog you could get..we were sold…

We found a ragdoll breeder on Vancouver Island in the town of Sooke, British Columbia..

On March 7, 2007 and we took the ferry across the Georgia Strait and went to pick up our new addition…he was suppose to go to another family but they changed our minds…lucky us!!!

he adjusted pretty well once he figured out where his litter box was..and he loved to sleep in what we called ‘the rabbit hole’..that is him in between the couch cushions in the bottom left picture…or he would  just hang over the edge of the chair…..IMG_4250

fast forward four years..and one ‘brother’ added to the family..Oliver is the boss..and Tucker knows it..the cat gets fed first..he was here first and that is the pecking order!!..we think Oliver thinks that the  dog is just a big cat???Pictures5

the two of them are best buddies…or at least we think they are??

Happy fourth birthday PO!!! ( short for Prince Oliver)

  3. When Kelly & first met years ago we each had cats & when we moved to the old farm house we had a lot of cats. Max grew up with them all & got along fine. Your Oliver is a little sweety pie. Had never heard of the 'Ragdoll' breed before.

  13. Awesome cat. Our " Juniper " is doing wonderful, and amazing on our trip. She rides in the 5th now that it has warmed up, but she was fine on the loose in the truck as well. Your ragdoll is precious!
