prepare to launch..Glamping 2010

Prepare to launch the 2010 Glamping Season!! Fort Langley and Brae Island Regional Park is our destination for our first trip of 2010...more tomorrow...

2010090212210737We are finally happy once again..'Bigdawg and Freeway' have left the storage lot in Maple Ridge, together again after being sedentary for almost six months..

We are parked in our favourite local campground. We have been to this park numerous times in the past few years and we always thoroughly enjoy our stay here.

We are in spot #28 on Salamander..we have a view of the water, the sunset and Mom and Dad are right next door in their beloved 'Oscar'.

We arrived here at 3:45 p.m. after our quick trip over the Golden Ears Bridge and through the section of Langley known as Walnut Grove.

2010090212323489The weather today has been good..some sun and cloud and a few raindrops. We were set up within an hour and visiting with Mom and Dad once we were organized.

Tucker has a new nickname... Digger..he dug a big hole while we were visiting..bad poochie!

Tomorrow Doug has to go to work..poor him..the rest of us get to enjoy the day!!!

As I am writing this, Doug is watching Ice Road Truckers and Tucker is fast asleep..ahh the life of the working dawg!

Today is the eve of our 2010 "glamping season"..what is glamping you ask??..well it is taking the trailer and parking it in an RV park and having all the amenities..power,water,sewer, cable and internet..kind of like home without the home part!!

"Freeway" is all packed and ready to go..the fridge is on..and the clothes and all the other "stuff" is raring to included..(Oliver is staying with Carlie....a little sleep over with his 'sister'..)

All this week we have been getting ready..making lists..packing bins..driving out the storage lot..unloading the truck and coming home again for another load..the first trip of the year is always the "worst"..trying to remember the hopes that we don't forget anything too important.

My day today involved a visit to the ECG..blood pressure check..a halter monitor for 24 hours and an Echocardiogram in two weeks..all just precautionary..the Doctor does not think there will be any problems so we are just covering all the bases...

The afternoon was spent in Maple Ridge loading up the last of the I drove away I hoped that the fridge will stay always does but I always worry..silly I know, but that is just me!!

So tommorrow after work and five longs months of being sedentary, Bigdawg and Freeway will be hooked together again for a short trip to Fort Langley and Brae Island Regional Park..we can hope the weather will be good but it is Spring after all..and we all know the little saying..April showers bring May flowers!!

Happy Easter everyone..more here when we return on Monday!!

Our trip will be recorded on the trip below

I 'm the man behind the main blogger. Susan has been bugging me to do a blog. So as you can see she has  not given much choice after yesterday's blog. My bucket list would start with going to see a NASCAR RACE somewhere in the west here. Then I would like to see the PBR Finals in Las Vegas.

Of course this would be with my best friend and traveling companion, my dear wife Susan. The rest of  my bucket list would consist of traveling and visting all of the interesting people we have met during our travels and on the blogs. So maybe this will catch on and I may enjoy this blogging thing.

So for now stay safe and you never know when I am behind the keys instead of the wheel.

Our routine everyday is pretty much the same ..get up..go to work..come home..have dinner..laundry and computer or televison and then off to bed...not very exciting that is for sure!!

One of our daily  enjoyments  is reading all the blogs of our travelling "friends"..from reading all the blogs and trip journals we are forming our very own 'bucket list'..the list is getting longer as we continue living vicariously through all of you who are experiencing new adventures around every turn in the road!

We are soaking in all the information you have to offer and thoroughly enjoy all the trials and tribulations that go along with life in an RV....Without the wonders of the internet how would we have ever found this wonderful world of 'fulltimers and part-time rv'ers??

We just want to say thank you for being 'out there' because without you our 'bucket list' would be minimal!
Safe travels to all of you and we hope to meet you down the road one day soon..we will be the ones asking all the questions!!

Dreams never die..just the dreamer!!

Today was a day filled with dreaming..Our day was spent at the HUMDINGER RV SHOW in arena filled with the trailers, fifth wheels and buses enough to satisfy our RV dreams..not that we found our dream RV..we kicked a few tires, slammed a few drawers and sat in a few driver's seats wishing we were heading down the highway. (we did make on purchase though..a satellite dish and tri-pod)

After the RV show we went had some lunch at Tim Horton's with Mom and Dad..great to share the time at the show with them....we parted ways and they headed home..we went at got diesel at 95 cents a litre and then ventured towards the town of Chilliwack and O'Connor RV..more tire kicking..not much of any interest at this lot so we headed west towards home and decided to stop at Fraserway RV and look some more..we seem to be having a day filled with RV looking so why stop now..there was a couple there that could be contenders but we are by no means ready to make any final decisions.

We picked Tucker up from doggy daycare..went for  a walk along the pier at Rocky Point..had an order of fish and chips and fresh squeezed lemonaide for dinner...all in all a great day filled with only  if we had won the $41 million lottery prize..then our dreams would be fullfilled.

Once we got home the phone rang and it was my friend Brenda..we have not spoken since October so it was great to catch up with her...we understand each other..nothing like an old friend..makes me realize how much I miss having her in the neighbourhood.

Happy Saturday everyone...the sun has set on a good day here in Coquitlam....till next time..keep your dreams alive!

If only??

our lives are filled with 'if only's"...

1. if only our jobs were more satisfying
2. if only our lottery numbers would come in
3. if only 2014 would hurry up and get here
4. if only we could move on with the next phase of our lives
5. if only we could just be happy with what we have
6. if only we could stop living vicariously through our blog friends
7. if only we could just enjoy each day  like  it was our last
8. if only the dog and cat  would stop leaving hair everywhere
9. if only there were more hours in the day
10. if only our dream was a bit closer within our grasp

We are trying really hard to 'keep an eye on the prize'..but some days it is very difficult ..we feel like we are hitting our heads agains the are frustrating but they are the means to the end so we need to get through each day and be thankful for that...we have the same lotto numbers that we have been playing for a few years..3,5 10, 15, 22 and 24..great numbers but have they been drawn..HELL NO...

We know we should not be wishing our lives away and be happy for what we have because we are very fortunate but some days it sure doesn't seem like it..our blog friends are what gets us through the day sometimes..we know that one day we will be the ones living our dream and there will be new rv  dreamers sitting at home wishing it was them!!

We spend five days a week in the working world..and the evenings go by very quickly filled with all the mundane chores..dinners, lunches, housework and laundry fill our weeks..then the weekends come around and they go by so quickly...and we are back at it again!!

Thanks for being out there and 'writing about your daily rv adventures" save us from falling into a 'dark hole of despair'..

No, this is not a 'pity party'..don't feel too sorry for us..we will 'snap' out of this mood soon..the dark days of winter are done and bring on 'camping season'

Blind Sided??

Our Saturday afternoon was spent at Dogwood Dog Park in South Surrey.

We met up with Jim and Melissa and their son, Cole and golden retriever, Aniston..Ani for short.  I work with Melissa at the hospital and she has been off on maternity leave for 10 months so it was great to catch up with her and her lovely little family.

The park was  mud pit but the dogs had a great time..doing what dogs love to do..roll in the mud, chase the balls and the sticks and swim in the pond.  Tucker was a soggy, tired dog when we left but not before poor Doug was knocked to the ground by a very large, fast golden doodle..the bigger they are the harder they fall !!!...we were all busy chatting so did not witness this encounter but noticed after that he was covered in mud???..

We went to the Super Walmart Center in South Surrey after the dog park and purchased a few groceries ...our evening was spent watching television in our TV room, me on the computer and Doug with the heating pad on his leg..our clocks moved ahead an hour before we headed off to bed..Spring Forward..summer is on the way!!!!

learning to live in a small space??

Our darling daughter moved out over a month ago..her room has been transformed to a computer and tv room..this very small room is about 9x9...the television is an older model with a 20 inch screen..never mind the fact that  you can't adjust the volume with the remote control..

We have now gotten into the habit of 'hanging out"  in this very small room with the small television every evening..Doug, me and the two "boyz..oliver and tucker...never mind the fact that we have a 52 inch television in the living room..we seem to like this nice cozy room and the small television......are we strange or just adjusting to our future ??..may as well get use to living in a small space....!!!

Rest in Peace "BO-DIE"

It is with a heavy heart that I write this entry today..

Through the wonders of the internet, two years ago we met our four-legged friend, Bodie and his human companions,Gordon and Juanita.

We followed their travels to Alaska in 2008, reading their journal entries as they explored the great state of Alaska and our province of British Columbia.  We finally met  when they were in the state of Washington in September 2008.  We then had the pleasure of spending two glorious weeks on the Oregon Coast in 2009 with them as our tour guides...they were now new friends that we felt we had known forever....We met once more in Sequim, Washington..and as we parted it..we said long...not thinking that this would be the last time we would see Bodie..

Rest in Peace had a great life filled with lots of adventures..and many roads will be missed but not forgotten.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

just another Sunny Saturday!!

Just another normal sunny Saturday  at our house..we spent the late morning and early afternoon at the storage lot..Freeway is now re-loaded with all the stuff that we took out over the winter..the bed is made..towels are put away..we lit the fridge just to make sure it would work..that makes me happy..the fridge has to be working!!..we all have our obsessions and the fridge is mine!!  We need to fill the propane before we go on our first "road trip" to Fort Langley at the end of the month but other than that all we need are food and clothes loaded and the 2010 season will begin...and this makes us very HAPPY!!

Tucker spent the main part of the day at Uptown Dawg....he had a great time and then after we picked him up we went across the street to Rocky Point Park for a stroll along the pier..nice to walk a dog that is tired!!

The rest of our day was spent on the patio..drinking "paralyzers"..making dinner..belgian waffles..and perusing the internet..tommorrow.?? real plans as yet but we can hope for another glorious sunny day!!!

FREEWAY preparing for the 2010 season

Today we loaded up FREEWAY with all the items from the plastic bins..made the bed, put all the towels and other items away in their designated spots..all we need now is food and clothes..i

It was a beautiful sunny day..perfect for this great job..our neighbour at the storage lot was still away so we could just park the truck beside FREEWAY and transfer everything...we were all done in a few hours..nice to have things back where they belong.

We just need to apologize to FREEWAY..because of course this past winter we have been perusing the Internet looking for a bigger and better 'home on wheels'..we are sorry FREEWAY we still love you..even though you are a small and cozy..we can hardly wait to get out and enjoy the 2010 RV season!!

Our first trip this year will be to our favourite local spot of Brae Island Regional Park in Fort Langley..stay tuned...only a few more weeks...and BIG DAWG AND FREEWAY will be back out on the road.

Aww nuts…

How on earth does someone do a recap of the past seven months?… The last post that I did was on May forward to today, December 3...
