the lesser of two evils??

Today, while at work I was discussing with a co-worker our routine when we arrive home…She told me that we were ‘going to be a boring, organized old couple when we retired’

She of, course has no idea what our retirement plans are..so how could she know if we are going to be  boring or not!

Doug and I had a discussion with regards to our routines…he normally picks me up after work..waiting about 2o minutes for me..and then we ride home together…..

once we are  home….Doug takes Tucker to the park…and  I get changed…make lunches, and get dinner ready, and  throw a load of laundry in…

we have it down to a science..all done, dinner and dishes.. in under two hours and we  are sitting and relaxing..we go to bed by 10 ..and then do it all over again the next day…

Does this make us ‘old and boring’..I would say NO…we are just organized..mornings are much easier knowing that everything is all done..

One day this week..Doug was off early so I took the bus home..so he had to do all the evening chores..hence the title..which is the lesser of two evils..wait for me..and get help once we get home ..or leave me to take transit and have to do everything by yourself.

I haven’t really decided which is better…ride the bus?..relax..close my eyes ..listen to my ipod....take a nap…or get a ride home and then have a list of chores to do??…

We are a team, so there really is no lesser of two evils..we do what needs to be done so each of us can sit and relax after a day of work…

does this make us boring?..the weekends are filled with blog worthy day trips..so for that we are thankful…the work week is long, but at least being organized makes them a bit less painful.

  1. I agree. When you are working the only way you can enjoy some leisure time is to be organized. I didn't like to sit down until the lunches, dinner & dishes were done. I liked to get up in the morning and only have myself to get ready. Now that I am gloriously retired I still like to organize but it's more about organizing the things we want to do. Take care! 2. that's part of the problem with the world today ~ people think they have the right to have an opinion and express it of other people and their lives...

we all know what works in our individual relationships. there are always going to be days when routines have to be changed up for any number of reasons and handling that is part of maturity, not old and boring...

  3. Now that we're away RV'ing we find that Paulette and I still have our own chores and routines. I look after all the tanks and most of the outside stuff while Paulette takes care of the inside. It's organized, it works and we both feel o.k. about the how the work is divvied up. Once in a while, we'll swap some chores and are then usually glad to get back to our own jobs!

  4. Once in a while you have a break from the routine of doing things together, and then you realize that it's really nice to do things together. Being organized is the only way that works for us!

  5. I really like your header picture! Nice. Thanks so much for your support lately at both my blogs - Camp Host's Meanderings and Levonne's Pretty Pics. I appreciate you! If you're boring then so are John and I. I do know that I don't feel bored. How about you?

  6. We groove like Rick and Paulette, I take care of the inside, he cares for the outside stuff. You are certainly not boring and being organized makes life lots easier. I might procrastinate some but I'm still a firm believer in being organized.

I feel like a complete dork, not having joined your blog sooner...thought I had...

  7. I like the word team, since I am fully retired now and Donna is working two jobs still, I have pretty much taken over the laundry and cooking and all the small jobs that keep the household going, yes I make the bed as soon as were up at 04:30am, been doing that since my military days. But it is only fair to Donna since she soldiers on until we can find a way to afford health care and she can file for social security in August. The pups are the ones that have the life. they pretty much play all day and hound Dad for attention.Since we don't have much time together. we try to make the best of what we do have and someday we will be bored with our routine. Can't wait. Be safe out there Sam & Donna...

  8. Having a routine doesn't make us boring; it makes us efficient and gives us free time to do what gives us pleasure. Take a look at those who say routine makes for a boring life, and I'll bet they are always running around taking care of things that have to be done and complaining that they have no time for anything else. Just my 2 cents.

  9. Boring I think NOT!!! Organization is a good thing and when it comes to play time you are ready... You are adventurers who just have to take a work week break to make it all possible! I am a huge fan of being organized and I agree work together to have more time together.

  10. I think everyone has routines. It's a normal part of belonging to the human race. Even animals have their routines. Computers have routines as they go through their start up processes everytime we turn them on & it seems routine for the big southwest winds to mess up peoples awnings on their rigs. I think routines are as exciting or boring as one wants to make them. We are all different & we all do well with our favorite routines. Now, how's that for a routine comment. Keep up the good posts BD:))

  11. Why do people feel the need to say things like that??? When I worked I hated feeling rushed in the mornings so I did exactly what you guys do--organize and prepare. You are not boring and won't that co-worker be surprised when you head out into the world on your adventure!?

  12. I choose to call it a "pattern" in our lives...doing what works for us to get through the day feeling lucky to be able to HAVE a pattern. Everyone's pattern is different...sometimes the pattern is out of whack to others, but to us, it is just fine...LIVE AND LET LIVE, I SAY!!

  13. I need Organization in my life. I have a hard time relaxing until things are cleaned up and stuff put away.

  14. I think routine is good for you. Even when you are retired routine is a good thing. Getting it done so you can relax, how can anyone argue with that?

  15. Hmmm.. I guess all of us here in blogland must be pretty boring then! :) What is that woman doing that's so exciting??

  16. I guess its boring but if their idea of fun is chaos then I'll take the organized "boring" any old day!

  17. Sounds to me like you guys have it set the way you like it and that's what is important. Like many others the wife takes care of most of the inside, I actually handle the bathroom and carpet and the outside and my wife handles the shopping and food preperation. If I handled the cooking we would likely die, so it works out well.

  19. Was this person in her early 20's? LOL

That's the kind of a passive-aggressive statement I hate. You find yourself in a lose-lose situation, defending youself or agreeing with them when you should'nt have to do either. I try to say something like, Why in the world would you say something like that?"

I think you guys have been together long enough to know what works for you both, and that's all that matters. Sounds PERFECT to me!

  20. Maybe she's projecting her boring life on to you so she'll feel better. And who is she to judge if your life is boring or not? All that matters is if you're happy with it.
