Westward ho….

Fullscreen capture 16042011 64345 PM

where are we going so darn early?..up at 430 am on a Saturday!!.. in time to catch the 630 am ferry to Nanaimo??..who is across  the water and up the road a few miles????

We are off to meet two blogging buddies..Doug has asked me if I am nervous about meeting someone we have never met before?..

In the old days..I would never be able to do this…but at this point in my life, I feel like we are going to meet friends that we already know…

I use to be  one of those ones at a party who didn’t do well if I didn’t know anyone.. I wasn’t able to make idle chit chat..just didn’t feel comfortable enough with myself to carry on a conversation with strangers..

Doug on the other hand can talk to anyone about anything..and for that I am thankful..He has been the saving grace on many occasions…

But things are different now…

Blogs are the ‘window’ into someone’s life and  thoughts…you make friends with bloggers and readers before you even meet them….

Cowichan Bay on Vancouver Island  and the home of Rick and Paulette is our destination on this Saturday morning….we are looking forward to meeting these ‘new friend’s…stay tuned ..you know it’s going to be a ‘double blog worthy trip!’

unconditional love….

There are no real words on this sad day in blogville to make the pain go away for Al and  Kelly…

After reading all the comments on their blog the last few days..it has made me realize that what I have always thought…bloggers are ‘animal lovers’….and this week has just confirmed it…

IMG_4161

We have all seen the ‘little face’ of a new ‘four legged friend’…fallen in love with the idea of having a loyal companion..

2010_09_042

But the one down side to this ‘little face’ is the fact that their life is short, in comparison to a human one…they look to us for love, food and shelter and we provide that ‘ten fold’…

Pictures5

They also look to us for that very difficult final decision…the hardest one a ‘pet owner’ ever has to make…if you have not had to make that decision as yet, then consider yourself very lucky…

IMG_3302

We have had to make that decision  twice in our lives..we know our day will come again where the decision will  have to be made again…IMG_4251

But until then we will cherish each moment that our ‘boys’ are with us…never mind the ‘hair on the  ‘fur’niture or the dust bunnies that all the hair creates....or the kitty litter mess..or having to take our ‘golden boy’ to the park in the rain…

It is all part of being a  pet owner..and for that we are grateful…the unconditional love that an animal gives even on a bad day makes everyday a good day…

‘He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

where has the time gone??

my friend, Robbie tagged me in this photo today on Facebook..this was October 16th, 1985..the day after our daughter Carlie was born..and two days after Robbie’s third son, Steven was born…

216328_212391048780675_100000293456015_798177_4419895_n

222691_212391245447322_100000293456015_798180_7336720_n

The Dad’s look so young and full of hair??..this photo was taken about four blocks from where we live now..our life has gone full circle…(Steven is the one crying and Carlie is the quiet one)….

We were all so young and naive..if only we knew then what we know now..how different would life have been???

fast forward those 25 years and here we sit…now looking forward to the next stage of our life…we are still naive..just older….filled with  hopes,  dreams and doubts..we may not be wiser..but we have learned from our mistakes..and there have been many of them…too many to think about …learn and move on..is our motto…

through the years we have annoyed more than one person in our lives..but life goes on…the relationships may never be the same..but life is  a learning curve…we may not be at the ‘head of the class’ but we are learning and growing from each experience…

I will admit to being the obsessive one..the planner…the one who figures things out..and hopes that it will all work out..it looks good on paper but then reality hits and it doesn’t work out as planned…life is full of disappointments..but we still pick ourselves  up and move on…

Will our dream come to be?…we can hope..one day at a time..our jobs provide us with the financial security to live our daily lives..but what about after our working days are done?..how much $$ is enough??..just depends on how we want to live??

We have said more than once to each other..that we have made some big errors in our life…if only we could get those last 25 years back and do things differently..but that is not to be…

Learn and move on..once the words are spoken you can’t take it back..same goes for the ‘almighty dollar’!!..once it is spent that is it..

There is no turning back the clock..just looking forward for us now…we may wonder where the time has gone..but we are looking forward to the time ahead…

our dream may seem out of reach most  days..but we will  forge ahead and some way some how it will all come together…

the ‘boys’ love Sunday morning too…

The weather was not too bad this morning so we made plans to head into New Westminster…the Royal City..and the oldest city in Western Canada…

IMG_5787

Tucker needed some ‘leash time..so we went to the New Westminster Quay for a walk along the Fraser River…

the flowers were in bloom and the smell of the hyacinths was amazing..I was hoping for the hanging baskets to be up on the lamp standards..but too early yet…maybe next time…

2011_04_243

We had a lovely stroll …the rain started to come down..and we were not ‘armed with an umbrella’..so it was time to head home…my good hair day was no more..

There was yet another race at the track late this afternoon so we drove down to Vancouver to watch Victory Suite.(Sally)...number 9 in race #5…pano

Carlie and her friend, Kim met us at the track for a lesson in betting and hopefully winning a bit of $$

Parade in the paddock…looking fine…not that we are experts or anything..just hopeful “wanna be winners..”

the end result..not so great..Victory Suite came in ninth..beaten by 16 1/2 lengths..better luck next time..

win some and you lose some…so much for my $4 bet…

Road trip….

heading out on a road trip today…135 kilometers south..over the border towards the city of Burlington, Washington..and La Conner..home of the tulip festival…

Fullscreen capture 22042011 71448 PM

We left home at 6:15 am..and headed towards Carlie’s house..we are swapping vehicles..leaving the jeep in Maple Ridge and taking her car south of the border..family day out!!!

Passports in hand..Doug behind the wheel of Carlie’s beloved car..we headed towards the border…in the hopes that  the border line up wouldn’t be too long…

IMG_5709IMG_5710IMG_5711

for those of you who are interested in the results of the border line-up?..we arrived at 7 am at the Pacific Border Crossing..surrounded by many vehicles all with the same idea…we crossed into the USA just after 8 am..not too bad considering the fact that on Good Friday the wait was over 3 hours..

Our first stop was gas…$4.15 a gallon( our price in BC is $5.19)..Carlie’s car is now full..onwards we head to the IHOP  in Bellingham for some good ole fashioned food!!..yes, Doug had pancakes..Carlie and I shared Chicken and waffles?..sounds weird I know..but at 1100 calories we figured sharing was a better idea…it was an interesting taste combination..

ihop2

with our list in hand..we continued south on the I-5 to the city of Burlington..we made a few stops…Uniform Destination….LuLu Lemon….Costco….Wholesale Sports and Walmart..we supported the USA economy with our purchases…

Now onto the ‘tulips’!!!..$5  to park the ‘nice clean car’ in a  dirty, dusty muddy parking lot…

IMG_5765

IMG_5764

the car was clean..well at least for a day…our darling daughter is not pleased with me..all in the name of ‘blogging’…she just doesn’t understand!?…

IMG_5772

This is our second time to La Conner to visit during ‘tulip time’..there was a sea of colour!!

IMG_5714IMG_5720IMG_5727IMG_5742

IMG_5718

Now Carlie of, course didn’t want her picture taken?..but I insisted…

IMG_5730

She just doesn’t understand this blogging thing..I don’t think she would be able to endure a two week vacation with us!!

IMG_5731

okay..no more..I promise…

IMG_5713IMG_5716IMG_5717

IMG_5725IMG_5726IMG_5729IMG_5734IMG_5747

IMG_5755IMG_5757IMG_5759

geesh..isn’t Dad done yet…they look the same from this angle…

IMG_5756

one more of our ‘patient daughter’..

now we can go for lunch…

IMG_5773IMG_5774

time to head home…Tucker is waiting to be picked up…but first we need to get to the border..

IMG_5776

the wait heading north into BC was a short one..only 10 minutes..where you from?..how long you been gone?..total value of goods purchased?..did you buy tobacco or alcohol?

have a nice day!!…

One quick car wash for Carlie’s car…and we dropped her off at home and we headed to pick up our ‘boy’..

A tired dog is a happy dog…

IMG_5778IMG_5777

another one who is not in a ‘picture taking mood’!!

now..on the horseracing front…Classic Alley Kat ran today at Hastings Park..we bet $2 to win…$21.40 won!!..woohoo…

Settling in..
