Monck Provincial Park recap…

272 kilometers from our home in Coquitlam..about a four hour drive..

We have been to the area of Merritt and the Nicola Valley numerous times but we have never visited Monck Park..

Nicola Lake…picture perfect…

‘Set on the shore of Nicola Lake, Monck Provincial Park offers a wide assortment of recreational activities including camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, boating, water-skiing, wind-surfing and hiking. A very popular family-oriented campground in a hot, dry setting this park has very high use during the summer season. In addition to providing recreational opportunities, Monck protects a ponderosa pine, bunchgrass ecosystem and a volcanic rock cliff landscape.’

we arrived safely after the four hour drive…but our reserved site was not quite ready…we parked in the day use area…

the park is very of the nicest ones we have seen…every campsite has a view of the lake..some are just a ‘peek-a-boo view’ but a view still the same…IMG_7074

the osprey nest… birds in sight..yet…

our original site was suppose to be #79 but we moved to #118 to be closer to Doug and Toni..

This site was large enough for a ‘big rig’….and there is a  few of them in this beautiful park..

Once we were all set up..we went   to visit with Doug and Toni Laird..and their dog, Parker and the kitty, Buzz..

We spent the balance of the day and evening  chatting with our new ‘friends’..they were a ‘bevy’ of information and had answers to all our questions with regards to being a ‘full-timer’ from British Columbia…

Toni ‘fixed’ a delicious dinner of Chili and buns and homemade Lemon Meringue Pie..the conversation continued well into the evening…before we finally said our ‘goodnights’

Saturday was another sunny warm day

…we had our breakfast and then we went for a hike..East Loop Trail..Doug told us to go to the left..but we went to the right??…the West Loop was the easier of the two…IMG_7119

the views were amazing…the steep sections?..were constant…

what goes up..must go down..eventually…

We were glad to be back down off the mountain and happy that we persevered and finished the loop…but we were  in desperate need of a chair and a big drink of water with ice!!!

Toni and Doug came to our campsite for lunch..bringing with her, a picnic lunch..egg bun-wiches and some homemade chocolate cookies…good thing we did our hike this morning…

We spent the rest of the afternoon down at the lake..we found a little spot to put the lawn chairs and Tucker got to go swimming…

we are pretty sure he is part fish…or maybe a scuba diver in his former life??

a tired dog is a happy dog…

barbequed steak for dinner…

a great end to a lovely day…

then there was time for  a campfire..and yes, some Disaronno….

Doug tried his ‘hand at planking…looking at the stars…there’s the ‘Big Dipper’??

We packed up in the morning after breakfast..along with all the other weekenders…

The drive home was uneventful…we stopped at the rest area just west of Hope and had an impromptu lunch..

so as another weekend draws to a close..we are thankful that we took the time to meet our fellow BC’ers…thanks for the hospitality Doug and Toni…we had a lovely time and most definitely we will return to Monck Park..our new favourite campground!!

  1. What a beautiful park, we have been up that way many times but never stopped there. We will for sure now.

  2. Looks like another great weekend!! And the Tuck got to swim! Good for him... love the pic with his face in the water!!! WTG you hikeroos!! But all that food ~ woohoo ~ was that the steak from last weekend???

    jk and you know it!!

  3. So glad you are getting to go! I always wanted a pop up when we were younger, but Craig never was in favor of the idea.

    We have actually never camped!

  4. Glad you got to meet Toni & Doug. She really does like to cook. That pic of Tuck in the water is just too cute.

  5. We had such a great time. Lots and lots of laughing. Good to have someone new to tell our rather stale jokes to. I KNOW we will see you guys again and again.

Thanks for the gifts, we will always think of you when we burn the candle (at both ends?) and the plaque says it all.

Thanks too for helping me install Live Writer. As you see, I used it tonight and I will need practice.

  6. Sue and Doug, I'm so happy for you that you are able to get out and enjoy these weekend camping trips. It's always nice to meet up with fellow bloggers. That park looks like a great place to camp! Liked your pictures!

  7. Love your blog. You seem to be a very happy couple after 30 years. We are having our silver 25 yrs. next year and enjoying the RV-life together.

  8. A great weekend getaway and a beautiful place to be. Your site was really pretty and I am sure the view was spectacular. On top of that you got to meet and spend some time with new friends Doug & Toni.
    Great job!!

  9. What a lovely park ... I don't mind steep hikes as long as there are views to enjoy ... nice reason for frequent rest breaks.

  10. Beautiful park and pictures. I love the dandelion photo as I am a sucker for wild flowers :)

We've never spent any time in the Merrit area (usually just pass through) but will have to put this park on the to do list!

BC really is so beautiful and there is so much we haven't explored right there in our own back yard :)

  11. What a great weekend you had. The Campground/Park looks beautiful. We really love the sceney in B.C. we will make it there again one day in the future. I like the hike you took.
