hi ho..hi ho…

Today was the end…the end of what?..

  • the end of going to bed when I was tired
  • the end of sleeping in
  • the end of doing what I want
  • the end of spending all day with my ‘ boys’

  • the end of doing the household chores at my own pace
  • the end of feeling like I am organized
  • the end of reading blogs whenever I feel like it

Why you ask?..well today I went back to that ‘place’…you know the one…..

  • the place that makes me go to bed early
  • the place that makes me get up before the sun
  • the place that makes it necessary to be showered and dressed before 6 am
  • the place that makes me be on the bus before 7am
  • the place that pays me a nice paycheque
  • the place that will make our dream come true with a nice pension cheque when I am ready to retire

now this morning there was a bit of stress with regards to ‘this place’ …

  • what time do I get up?
  • what time do I leave?
  • where is my bus fare?
  • where’s my lunch?
  • where’s my uniform?
  • what is my locker combination?
  • what is the password to my work email?

Have I missed this ‘place’?….or the people in it??….that would be a resounding NO!

But I went with a smile on my face…..

hi ~ho~ hi~ ho ~off to work I go…..

I may have been the Happy Dwarf….

on the outside but on the inside…I was the Grumpy one..

..how many days till the weekend???

pain and torture…

Another weekend is done..no earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes or flash floods so for that we are most thankful.

Life in British Columbia is at best almost perfect..except for one small issue…it is called TRAFFIC..and TRAFFIC LIGHTS…

On any given day to get to the local Costco a mere 5.2 kilometers..8 minutes and  12 traffic lights can make a normal person go a little crazy!!

Fullscreen capture 29082011 62206 AM

now you know darn well it doesn’t take 8 minutes..some days especially on the weekends it can be more than 30 minutes..

So what do we do?..we escape the confines of our very busy neighbourhood and head east..

Fullscreen capture 29082011 62325 AM

48 kilometers along the freeway..feeling the wind and actually moving at a normal speed..well, except for the construction and the traffic flow…geesh…

Where are we heading?..to the land of cheaper gas…

instead of paying $1.37 a liter or $5.18 a gallon we drove the 48 kilometers and paid $4.50 a gallon..

Now..no visit to Abbotsford would be complete without a stop at Fraserway Rv..time for some tire kicking…we haven’t done that in a while…and since we were here..WHY NOT?

The new shiny buses  are a dream to look at ….

now..before anyone gets their ‘knickers in a knot’..we are just lookin’..doesn’t cost anything to have a look….

This dream of ours is a long  way off and we have some huge hurdles we need to get over before this plan comes together..

But we are still dreaming..some days life seems more like a nightmare but we will jump the hurdles and get to the point where we can escape the  torture of living in the land of TRAFFIC…

Mindless conversation..

Idle chit-chat..small talk..schmoozing..engrossed in my own hopes and dreams..

what ever you want to call it..

I go through life doing all of the above…talking, listening, wondering, dreaming..

I will be the first one to admit that I have been known to psycho-analyze what people say..

  • what did they really mean by that?
  • does it mean they are angry?
  • don’t they like me?
  • did I say something wrong?
  • what about my listening skills?
  • are they really as good as I think they are?

When someone asks “how are you?”..Do they actually stop and listen to what the answer is?..

there are lots of sayings that we use in our day to day conversations..but do we really listen to what the answer is..or is it just a ‘filler’?

this one Doug uses all the time…WHAT ARE YOOUUU DOING?..makes me laugh every time..

have a great day!..I have been known to use this…

love ya!

and a few chosen people will get this one too…

what have I learned?..listen more ..talk less..ask questions and wait for the answers!!

Talking and blogging are one in the same, in my opinion...the comments are the conversations that I have with the readers..

  • Do you go back and read your comments?
  • Do you reply when a response is deemed necessary?

so  for now I will talk less and listen more…..

This afternoon we were privileged to be invited to an 80th birthday party…

Who turned 80?..Melba Campbell..she is the mother of my friend, Brenda…

Brenda and I have been friends since 1980..lots of talking and listening has gone on over the past 31 years…..

A lovely afternoon party that we were happy to attend..a room filled with a whole lot of talking…and a ton of memories…

The older I get the more I appreciate time well spent with a dear friend and her family.

Cheers, Melba!..may you have many more birthdays!!

and so begins…

the next thirty years…

thirty years ago today  we were on our honeymoon…Harrison Hot Springs…

are we still on our ‘honeymoon?’…no…

’I didn't marry you because you were perfect. I didn't even
marry you because I loved you. I married you because you
gave me a promise. That promise made up for your faults.
And the promise I gave you made up for mine. Two imperfect
people got married and it was the promise that made the marriage.
And when our child was growing up, it wasn't a house that
protected them; and it wasn't our love that protected her - it was that
Thornton Wilder, The Skin of Our Teeth’

the word compromise seems to come to mind..

‘settlement of differences by mutual concessions; an agreement reached by adjustment of conflicting or opposing claims, principles, etc., by reciprocal modification of demands.’

may as well laugh..no point over  ‘crying over spilled milk’

We are looking forward..life hasn’t been  easy for us..we cannot change the past but we can change the future….

So as my vacation for 2011 is drawing to a close…another year begins…

To me, September has always been a fresh start..never mind January…

I will  trudge off to work next Tuesday..and begin the ‘circle of the working life’ once again…

so for the next thirty years?..

think I’ll take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now it’s time to focus in on where I go from here
Lord have mercy on my next thirty years
Hey my next thirty years I’m gonna have some fun
Try to forget about all the crazy things I’ve done
Maybe now I’ve conquered all my adolescent fears
And I’ll do it better in my next thirty years….’

What a difference 30 years makes??….

On this day 30 years ago..I married my best friend…

back then I don’t think we ever thought ..Where will be 30 years from now?….

we were all so much younger then…and the styles??..my goodness…

so as we embark on yet another 30 years..we can hope that the next 30 will live up to the expectations of our hopes and dreams…

do we want the last 30 years back?..yes, in some ways we sure do..but then in others?..not so much…Happy 30th Anniversary…

Love you more than yesterday and less than tomorrow…

Monck Provincial Park recap…

272 kilometers from our home in Coquitlam..about a four hour drive..

Fullscreen capture 21082011 62003 PM

We have been to the area of Merritt and the Nicola Valley numerous times but we have never visited Monck Park..

Nicola Lake…picture perfect…

‘Set on the shore of Nicola Lake, Monck Provincial Park offers a wide assortment of recreational activities including camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, boating, water-skiing, wind-surfing and hiking. A very popular family-oriented campground in a hot, dry setting this park has very high use during the summer season. In addition to providing recreational opportunities, Monck protects a ponderosa pine, bunchgrass ecosystem and a volcanic rock cliff landscape.’

we arrived safely after the four hour drive…but our reserved site was not quite ready…we parked in the day use area…

the park is very nice..one of the nicest ones we have seen…every campsite has a view of the lake..some are just a ‘peek-a-boo view’ but a view still the same…IMG_7074

the osprey nest…..no birds in sight..yet…

our original site was suppose to be #79 but we moved to #118 to be closer to Doug and Toni..

This site was large enough for a ‘big rig’….and there is a  few of them in this beautiful park..

Once we were all set up..we went   to visit with Doug and Toni Laird..and their dog, Parker and the kitty, Buzz..

We spent the balance of the day and evening  chatting with our new ‘friends’..they were a ‘bevy’ of information and had answers to all our questions with regards to being a ‘full-timer’ from British Columbia…

Toni ‘fixed’ a delicious dinner of Chili and buns and homemade Lemon Meringue Pie..the conversation continued well into the evening…before we finally said our ‘goodnights’

Saturday was another sunny warm day

…we had our breakfast and then we went for a hike..East Loop Trail..Doug told us to go to the left..but we went to the right??…the West Loop was the easier of the two…IMG_7119

the views were amazing…the steep sections?..were constant…

what goes up..must go down..eventually…

We were glad to be back down off the mountain and happy that we persevered and finished the loop…but we were  in desperate need of a chair and a big drink of water with ice!!!

Toni and Doug came to our campsite for lunch..bringing with her, a picnic lunch..egg bun-wiches and some homemade chocolate cookies…good thing we did our hike this morning…

We spent the rest of the afternoon down at the lake..we found a little spot to put the lawn chairs and Tucker got to go swimming…

we are pretty sure he is part fish…or maybe a scuba diver in his former life??

a tired dog is a happy dog…

barbequed steak for dinner…

a great end to a lovely day…

then there was time for  a campfire..and yes, some Disaronno….

Doug tried his ‘hand at planking…looking at the stars…there’s the ‘Big Dipper’??

We packed up in the morning after breakfast..along with all the other weekenders…

The drive home was uneventful…we stopped at the rest area just west of Hope and had an impromptu lunch..

so as another weekend draws to a close..we are thankful that we took the time to meet our fellow BC’ers…thanks for the hospitality Doug and Toni…we had a lovely time and most definitely we will return to Monck Park..our new favourite campground!!

Aww nuts…

How on earth does someone do a recap of the past seven months?… The last post that I did was on May 16..fast forward to today, December 3...
