A ‘Flippin’ great weekend!!

This weekend we were fortunate enough to have Friday off from work and we made arrangements to meet some friends, who live in Alberta, for a weekend of camping.

But first we needed to pick up our tent trailer from Fraser way RV, it was there for some warranty repairs.

IMG_0112

We arrived just before 8 am and the trailer was ready to go. All the issues we had were looked after and we headed east down the highway within a half hour.

IMG_0113

Our destination for a weekend of camping was Monck Provincial Park, just outside the town of Merritt.

Friday night ended with a campfire and we were in bed before 10..

Saturday the sun came out yet again..

Breakfast was ‘flippin’ pancakes, eggs and sausages..

Tucker was ready for bed at 6:30..

Balance..

The middle of  the month  of September is fast approaching and I have been back to work for a few days now and the word ‘balance’ comes to mind.

…The alarm wakens us before the sun is even up..and the day begins..

Work fills most of the day and then there is the other ‘stuff’..that we try to balance out..

balance0400

The ‘teeter-totter’ of our life..some days we are on the upside and other days we are on the down side, hitting our butts on the ground..

teeter-totter

..some days it feels like there isn’t enough time to do all that we want to do..

Commuting and working take up the better part of the 24 hour period..and then there is all the other things that need to be done..

I know I don’t dare  say I need a ‘vacation’..I just had 60 days off..but I do miss those long days of having all the time in the world..

My ‘teeter totter’ was balanced..and I was happy to putter along through my day..

Oh, sure I know I have to work..but at the moment I feel like my ‘balance’ is out of whack..

..so what does one do when they feel that their equilibrium is off kilter..well..they make plans to do something that makes us happy..

..take a few extra days off..and load up and head out on the open road..

A little camping trip this weekend will ‘balance’ things out’..

..oh how I wish I was like Tucker..only having to worry about ‘balancing a cookie on my nose’..

9-11

‘We all remember where we were on September 11, 2001. We all remember exactly what we were doing when we heard that two planes had crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City.

9_11-memorial

We all knew that we would never forget that day, for the rest of our lives.’

on this 11th anniversary of 9/11 we pause to reflect on all the lives lost and those families who’s lives were never the same after that fateful day..

all good things..

well, all good things must come to an end..

IMG_8630

done are the days of

  • sleeping in
  • doing what I want
  • cleaning at my leisure
  • cooking
  • camping
  • travelling
  • knitting
  • computer time
  • doing errands
  • sightseeing

IMG_8673

and most of all spending time with my lovely husband and my ‘boys’..

IMG_8827

Where oh where did the last 60 days go?

It seemed like only last week, that summer was stretched out before me..lots of time to enjoy the life known as ‘vacation’..

IMG_8848

..today was the last day..my ‘pity party’..well,not really..the reality of heading back to work has sunk in..

IMG_9004

  • lunch is made
  • bus money is ready
  • uniform is out
  • alarm is set

IMG_9212

..gone are the days of leisure, back to getting up early and heading off to that place called work..

IMG_9384

one day it will be my last day..just not yet..so until then I will savour all the memories of our summer vacation 2012..

IMG_9335

time to plan for 2013..where will we go??

IMG_9455

where ever the road takes us?..

I wish you enough..

We all receive those emails that sometimes just tug at your heart strings..and sometimes, depending on the mood, it just gets deleted or it gets forwarded to all those that matter..so today I am taking the time..

..sure I could have emailed it to a few friends and family but I felt it was worth sharing on my blog..….

you may have read it before..

IMG_4977
’Recently I overheard a Father and daughter in their last moments together at
the airport.

They had announced the departure.
Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the Father said, 'I love
you, and I wish you enough.'

The daughter replied, 'Dad, our life together has been more than enough.
Your love is all I ever needed.  I wish you enough, too, Dad.'

IMG_4986 They kissed and the daughter left.  The Father walked over to the window
where I was seated.  Standing there I could see he wanted and needed to cry.

I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, 'Did you
ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?'

pano'Yes, I have,' I replied.  'Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever
good-bye?'..

'I am old, and she lives so far away.  I have challenges ahead and the
reality is - the next trip back will be for my funeral,' he said.

'When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I wish you enough.'  May I
ask what that means?'

He began to smile.  'That's a wish that has been handed down from other
generations.

IMG_4974

My parents used to say it to everyone...'  He paused a moment and
looked up as if trying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more.

'When
we said, 'I wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life
filled with just enough good things to sustain them.'

Then turning toward me,
he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day
may appear.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.

I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear
bigger.

I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

IMG_5015
I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.

He then began to cry and walked away.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate
them, a day to love them; but then an entire life to forget them.
TAKE TIME TO LIVE....

To all my friends and loved ones, I WISH YOU ENOUGH.

A Bird in the hand..

..never assume that everything will go as planned..sometimes life just throws you a ‘curve ball’ and it up to you if you are going to catch it and run with it or just drop the ball..

IMG_9956

..the drive to Manning Park was filled with lots of traffic..per usual on a long weekend..

IMG_9958

once we finally got near Hope the traffic had dispersed..

‘Bart’ enjoyed the view..

IMG_9960

..recognize this place??..

IMG_9959

..this time we were one of those cars whizzing on by..

IMG_9961

Our weekend of ‘dry camping’ ..was filled with a few mishaps..

2012_09_01

..we arrived and set up in record time..that was until we tried the ‘water system’..

yes, the water tank was full..all 23 gallons and the pump did turn on..but there wasn’t enough pressure to make the water come out of the tap..at one point we had hot water coming out of both taps..

..after exhausting all our options..we came to terms with the fact that..’dry camping’ it is..

Doug crawled underneath the trailer and filled the water containers..

IMG_0043

..no running water for us..or instant hot water either..geesh..

..and this was only the beginning ..

We are camped at 1342 meters..the Allison Pass Summit is just up the road from where we are..

IMG_0034

well, we all know that means it will be a tad chilly..single digits in the morning…good thing the furnace works..

IMG_0038

after breakfast on Saturday, for us and the birds..

IMG_0105

2012_09_013

we drove to the Manning Park Lodge to make a call to the 1-800 number for Fraserway Rv, in the hopes that they could give us some insight into our ‘water issue’..

no luck there….oh well..we will deal with this when we get home..

a drive up the mountain to the Cascade Lookout..

2012_09_011

..and then another 4 1/2 miles to the Alpine viewpoint..

IMG_9984

IMG_9992IMG_9990

we took a little walk along the Viewpoint  loop trail..

IMG_9995

..Tucker had to share his token moment with ‘Bart’..

IMG_9997

..then it was back down the mountain for a swim at Lightning Lake..

IMG_0017

2012_09_014

..a deer sighting on the side of the road..

2012_09_016

then we drove through the Lightning Lake Campground..we came around the corner and saw this silver jeep?..could it be??

2012_09_015

..yes it is our old one..what are the chances?..I left a note, saying ..’nice jeep, use to be ours’ and told them where we were staying… and the new owners came by to see us later on that evening..a lovely couple from Aldergrove..

2012_09_017

..the Similkameen River(more like a babbling brook) at the base of our campsite..Tucker of course, had to get his paws in there too..

a real campfire..

IMG_0054

..and a moon to ‘howl at’..

IMG_0047

…Sunday was a relaxing day..

2012_09_021

..’please, Dad, can I go swimming again?2012_09_023

..the little trail at the end of the campground..

2012_09_022

..and more birds to feed..

why oh why are these birds eating my food??

….a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush??

our first experience with dry camping and our new tent trailer may have had some issues?

  • portable toilet had a bit of an expansion issue with the change in altitude?
  • water pump or lack thereof
  • fridge working overtime..worked more like a freezer than a fridge on propane.
  • we had frozen milk, lettuce, tomatoes, corn, onion, cream cheese.
  • stale buns freshly bought before we left.
  • salt container dumped on the potatoes.
  • cold temperatures and not enough warm clothes.

All in all..it was a ‘great weekend’, off the grid..

a nice campsite on the edge of the ‘river’..quiet and peaceful…will we do it again?..of course..

campsite cost $83

firewood $16

time spent together..priceless

is this the end of Camping 2012..hopefully not..

it is the end of this long post though..thanks for reading along..
