A ‘Flippin’ great weekend!!

This weekend we were fortunate enough to have Friday off from work and we made arrangements to meet some friends, who live in Alberta, for a weekend of camping.

But first we needed to pick up our tent trailer from Fraser way RV, it was there for some warranty repairs.

We arrived just before 8 am and the trailer was ready to go. All the issues we had were looked after and we headed east down the highway within a half hour.

Our destination for a weekend of camping was Monck Provincial Park, just outside the town of Merritt.

The view of Nicola Lake, seen from Highway 5a.

and our home for the weekend,

We settled into site number 1..

..and yes that is blue sky and sunshine you see, a perfect ‘Indian summer’ is ours to enjoy.

Our friends, Robbie and Bob Piper were in the campsite next to us.

nothing like some quality time with ‘old friends’..

..Tucker, of course went swimming, a few times?

..creating a ‘wake’ every time..he really needs to learn to control his exuberant behaviour?

the view from Tucker’s swimming hole…

Friday night ended with a campfire and we were in bed before 10..

Saturday the sun came out yet again..

Breakfast was ‘flippin’ pancakes, eggs and sausages..

…we spent the day going between the two campsites..and catching a few wasps, in Doug’s ‘bee catcher’..

and taking Tucker for his ‘swim sessions..

….another great day that ended with a lovely steak , garlic prawns and Cesar salad dinner..

..and a campfire with the ‘Piper clan’..

Tucker was ready for bed at 6:30..

..dreaming of catching his ‘green Frisbee’, I am sure..

Sunday it was time to head home..

..but not before our coffee and toast..

..and a couple of photos of the osprey nest..and it’s occupant..

IMG_0165IMG_0154IMG_0163 ..we said our ‘good byes’ we made plans to meet again next year..

Cost of this weekend?

campsite $42.00

gas         $77.00

firewood $14.00

time spent with friends we have known for over 38 years..priceless

  1. It looks like a fine time was had by all. I'm glad you had good weather. Great pictures, and I like the high-tech wasp catcher!

  2. Looks like a great weekend. Tucker looks so cute taking a nap.

  3. I just gravitated towards that big jar of peanut butter. I can only get the tiny jars of Skippy here, and it's freakishly expensive.
Looks like a perfect spot on a perfect weekend.

  4. The photo of Nicola Lake reminds me so much of the Okanagan Valley. It's been 37 years since I left BC but I still remember those beautiful Autumn days like you experienced this week-end.

  5. Glad to see you guys had a great weekend out with friends, we are enjoying our week at the Rally we are planning on taking Rigg's to the doggie park today for a little while, hope they have a lake. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna....

  6. Holy Maple Syrup, Batman!! That pancake looked good enough to feed a third world country!!! What a gorgeous campsite you guys had...So great you could get away and such fine weather..I love that Tucker was "tuckered"....Keep up those weekends as long as possible!

  7. What a great weekend! I love that picture of Tucker jumping into the water!

  8. That steak and prawns dinner looked very delicious! Interesting way to keep the bees busy.

  9. Loved Tuckers night time bed and cover. Well, I also loved the water and the views. Definitely quality time for you.

  10. How can you not have a great weekend in a beautiful place like that? Nothing better than getting together with good friends.

Love your color coordinated chairs. :c)

  11. I'm so glad you all had a fun and gorgeous weekend!
I can smell the pine trees and the lake in your photos!
    Wonderful memories with good friends!

  12. You not only had a beautiful place to relax for the weekend but from the photos it appears you traveled through some beautiful areas as well. How lucky you are! Tucker's behaviour is just fine...let him nap some more so he can go swimming again. Loved his pic with the blanket.

  13. That's awesome! Great pictures as well, I keep telling myself to make mine smaller because they can be opened full size, I never listen! Now I know what my wife is talking about. :)

    Gotta love Indian summers!

  14. Ditto what Marsha said ... you guys had a great time it seems like. We were out camping too ... and had great weather and a great time.

  15. If Tucker fades early, it must be a great weekend:)

  16. Looks like a great weekend. And the price is right!

  17. It was a great weekend full of a lot of glad you were able to make it.
    Tucker is priceless! ;-)

  18. Site 1? Is just the first loop open? Good to see the park.

You just had to post a picture of the bloody osprey didn't you? ;)

  19. I love the picture of Tucker cozy on his bed. We're down in Petaluma California now. John has a job working on a casino construction project. We loved our four months on Vancouver Island and can't wait to get back to our little home "pad" at Surfside in Parksville. That is really a special little town!

May I share with you what's been keeping me from reading and commenting on blogs lately?

"This Restless Life: a study of Central Coast California parks through photography, interpretive collage and stories" is a book project of which I'm in the midst. If you have the time and the inclination, would you take a look at my short video at to learn more about the project? If you like the project, would you share it with your network of friends and family? Thank you sincerely. (I have a link to the video at the top of my blog page too.)
