Fourth ‘Bark-day’

Our ‘golden boy’ turns four today..

He was born October 31st, 2008..at a farm in the Fraser Valley..

One of the little balls of golden fluff would be ours, but we just didn’t know it yet…

We picked him out on December 6th, 2008 and brought him home on December 27th, 2008..

Our lives have not been the same since..

Never owning a puppy before this was new for us…

oh my goodness what have we done?..a dog born on Halloween?..the ‘devil child?’

all kidding aside,  he was a good puppy, adapting to the ever changing weather and  all the  new adventures and experiences..

The puppy stage did not last for too long..we learned as we went along..as did he..

fast forward four years later and we feel we have done a fairly good job of raising him to be a well socialized dog who loves to run, swim, chase the ball, go camping and of course go to daycare..

Doug and I  were so young….just 26 years old ..babies don’t come with instruction manuals or a return policy..

We learned as we went along..and now here we are 27 years later..

Proud parents of a fine young woman..we are still learning as we go....once a parent always a parent..

Bully for you?

What is a ‘bully?’

Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others.

The behaviour can be habitual and involve an imbalance of social or physical power  over each other.

This includes school, church or other religious groups, family, the workplace, home, and neighbourhoods.

The effects of ‘bullying’ can begin in the playground or at school, even at the age of a child in kindergarten.

Now there is ‘cyber bullying’, which can be an even worse situation with the social media such as Facebook and twitter.

To be a victim of such ‘bullying behaviour’ can be devastating to a child’s self esteem. Gone are the days of ‘meeting in the playground after school’ to solve an issue.

Now it’s the nasty messages on Facebook or texting..there seems to be no social conscience for this kind of behaviour..the reactions are not visibly seen so the ‘bully behaviour continues..

That is until the ‘target’ can’t take it any more..

Even as an adult we encounter that same ‘bullying behaviour’..be it a boss or a co-worker who is the ‘bully’..

Even an aggressive driver with ‘road rage’ could be deemed a ‘bully’..

why do we have to endure verbal abuse, or be humiliated by a fellow worker?

The longer you endure it the more power you give to the ‘bully’..

Today on our local news we were told that a young girl committed suicide because of ‘cyber-bullying’..how sad that such a young life is taken because of this ‘behaviour’..

Time for kids, parents and adults to be held accountable..

21 days..

Where has the time gone?..my last post was on September 16th, three weeks ago..

How did that happen?..what have we been doing?

Not too much, just the usual work stuff..hardly blog worthy..

Yesterday we went to the Cranberry Festival in Fort Langley..

No pictures were taken…it was a mass of people..we walked around as best we could..bought some cranberries and we left..enough of that..

onward to this morning..

Today was the first day that I actually used the camera since last month..

We loaded up a picnic lunch and headed east towards the town of Hope..filled up with gas..and then we headed south to Ross Lake..

60 kilometers of gravel road..

IMG_0202

some of the leaves were showing signs of a new season..autumn is on the way..

then there was a bear..he crossed the road right in front of us..moved to quick to take a photo!!..but it was real!!…no ‘Bart’ on this trip!!

IMG_0205

..we stopped at Silver Lake Campground and Silver Tip Campground..both had empty sites..geesh!..we should have come camping this weekend!!

IMG_0169

..Ross Lake only had a few occupied sites..the rest were..yes, you guessed it!..empty!!

IMG_0171

IMG_0172

..so peaceful and quiet..this is the American side of Ross Lake..

IMG_0179

..the clear cut line down the mountain is the border between Canada and the USA..

IMG_0168

..there is no access to the USA from here..the American visitors need to access Ross Lake via the  border at the Sumas crossing..

IMG_0175

..it was quiet  until ‘someone’ hit the water..

IMG_0187IMG_0185

..we enjoyed our picnic lunch..occupying one of the many empty campsites..

Tucker made two new friends..Rosie and Buddy!..two seven  year old golden retrievers..they moved pretty quickly so I wasn’t able to capture a photo of the three of them…

IMG_0191

..the weather was picture perfect..sunny and warm yet again…

after our lunch and enjoying the views..we head towards home..

stopping at this bridge..

IMG_0192

Doug and Carlie ventured across..Me?..I waited in the jeep..not a big fan of ‘swinging bridges’..

2012_10_071

..it was a lovely day..one that got me back into the ‘swing of blogging’ again..

IMG_0195

..and so ends our Thanksgiving Day..we hope that everyone had a great day filled with good food and family!!

Settling in..
