Pause and reflect..

As a new year begins and we say so long to 2012, it is often a time to pause and reflect on the year that has passed..366 days..12 months..52 weeks..8784 hours?..

Where did all that time go?..Some of that time was spent working, sleeping, eating , watching TV, shopping, on the computer..oh and of course doing some fun stuff too..

I was off work for the first few months of 2012 with a ‘foot injury’….spent a lot of time rediscovering an old hobby of knitting..

..before we knew it Spring was here..

..and we welcomed a new ‘orange four -wheeled jeep’..

..a spring picnic at our favourite beach..Birch Bay, Washington

..and then it was the first camping trip of the season..

..June was a rainy month..we had one four wheeling trip..heading north to the town of Squamish and the  Britannia mines..

..before we knew it, July was here and were Monck Park bound..our last trip with our old tent trailer..

..mid July we purchased a brand new tent trailer..

..and then the next day we headed south towards Kalispell, Montana..

..and so began the adventures of Bart..

..not to worry..Tucker is still a common topic..

..while staying Montana we met up with Jim and Sandie Dixon..

our summer vacation also took us to the city of Nelson, B.C..and the home of our friends, Brenda and Ken..

..August went by very quickly..IMG_9928

I spent a week at Brae Island Regional Park..just me and Tucker..

..we celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary..

September we went to Manning Park, Coldspring Campground..

it was a bit chilly, but the furnace did a fine job of keeping us warm..too bad we had no running water?

..our last trip of the season was in mid September, Monck Park again..

..sunny and warm..and our friends, Robbie and Bob were camped right next door..

…it was a lovely weekend and a very nice ending to our camping season for 2012..

October was yet another month that went by so quickly..Thanksgiving weekend we went for a drive to Ross Lake..we should have taken the trailer..a perfect fall weekend..and an empty campground!

..November is my least favourite month..the days are short and the weather is not that good….dark before we even get home from work..rain and more rain..not one photo was taken?

..December..Christmas was the highlight..

..a light dusting of snow..IMG_0257

..and a turkey dinner with all the trimmings..

IMG_0303 if you made it to the end of my ‘highlight reel’ for 2012 I just want to say thank you! we head into 2013, we just want to wish all our blog readers a very Happy New Year, may 2013 bring you much happiness, good health and safely travelled miles and of course, a beautiful view out the windshield!

Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, is a type of depression that commonly occurs in humans, especially in the winter months when we spend less time outdoors, have minimal access to bright, sunny days, and have fewer hours of daylight each day.

While the disorder commonly causes depression-like symptoms in humans, evidence suggests that dogs, too, are affected by the lack of sunlight this time of year.

The dark, gloomy days and longer, colder nights of winter can cause dogs to develop Seasonal Affective Disorder, just like humans.

In dogs, symptoms include lethargy, neediness, behavioural changes such as aggression and inappropriate pottying, and a general feeling of “blah.” In extreme or extended cases, even hair loss can occur.

Does Tucker suffer from S.A.D? I don’t think so since he is so happy all the time, no matter what the weather.

But Doug and I on the other hand, I would say we do have a mild case of it..but today there was a ‘flaming orb’ in the sky! Something we haven’t seen in a while, especially on a Sunday in the winter!

The sky was blue, the temperature, not exactly balmy but we bundled up and headed to Pitt Meadows and went for a walk along dyke.

It was foggy when we got there but it looked like there was some  hope of it burning off..

Tucker, of course, could care less..

he is just happy to be chasing his ball and free of a leash!IMG_0316IMG_0315

..there’s water, Dad..can I can I?

IMG_0321 can only imagine how cold the water is?

..and the one ‘airborne shot’..

..a few bird sightings, including two swans..

..yet another swimming hole..

IMG_0327 was here, that we turned around and headed back towards the jeep..the fog was slowly dissipating..

..and the reflections became more visible…IMG_0334

..a nice ending to a lovely quiet weekend, giving us time to ‘pause and reflect’ as this year is almost done..IMG_0333

talking turkey?

The turkey we served on Christmas Day weighed in at 9.76 kilos or 21.5 pounds..

It served ten and then I sent home two care packages, one for my sister and her husband and one for my parents.

We had hot turkey sandwiches on Boxing Day and then Carlie had some left overs one night this week..and there is still enough for one more sandwich. Not bad for a 21 pound turkey..for just over $20….18 servings…

That is the biggest advantage to being the host and hostess for Christmas Dinner..the left overs!!!

Now what to do with that Turkey carcass?..Turkey soup gets my vote..

IMG_0304 the carcass simmers away the smell of turkey once again fills the condo..

..more chopping and dicing this morning..

..and then through the magic of ‘blogging’

the finished product..

..this pot of soup is going on a car ride with Carlie....lunch for her boyfriend, Aaron..don’t forget the cheese biscuits, fresh from the oven..

..sure hope they enjoy it..

Good thing there is enough to make a big pot for us too, with more than enough for yet another meal or two..

A turkey that ‘keeps on giving’…or rather ‘feeding’..

Dinner time..better go..the soup’s on!!

Christmas 2012

Twas the night before Christmas..and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse..

The table was set, dinner for 10..

..the presents were place under the tree..

..and even  more  gifts under the tree next door..

awaiting the reveal tomorrow afternoon..

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads…

gone are the Christmas Eve’s filled the anticipation of the wide eyed little girl..awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus..

..strange how life changes as we all get older..

A quiet Christmas morning with just the two of us and the ‘furkids’..

..a few token gifts for Tucker..

..and not to be forgotten the kitty, Oliver  got some new toys,  too..

 ..Doug’s new fishing gear..

..and my pile of gifts, including a new Ipad!

..Christmas morning breakfast..

..Tucker waiting for his walk at the park..

..the afternoon was spent getting ready for dinner..turkey in the oven and we sat back and waited for  Carlie to come home…

..more gifts to new Dell Laptop Computer for our lovely daughter.. the time we finished, the turkey was cooked..a mangled mess and most certainly not “Martha Stewart” perfect..

..the dinner guests started to arrive just after 4..

Carlie and her boyfriend, Aaron 5:30 dinner was ready and we  were all sitting down to eat..

..all in all dinner was a success and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves..the wine flowed as did the ‘White Christmas Martini’s’.. as Christmas 2012 ends we are most thankful for being able to spend the day surrounded by family and good food and great company!

Aww nuts…

How on earth does someone do a recap of the past seven months?… The last post that I did was on May forward to today, December 3...
