A trip to ‘Coney Island?’

A perfect Saturday afternoon for a little day trip to the shores of Semiahmoo Bay and the town of White Rock..

The sky was blue and the sun was shining..albeit the temperature was none too balmy!

our choice for lunch was  ‘Coney Island’ Seafood..

IMG_0392 was Mother/Daughter day today..when we finally arrived at the seaside community we figured we better have some lunch.. IMG_0391

and yes, the piece of fish was that ‘big’! ..only $9.50 each ..delicious..

It would have been nice to sit outside and eat at a picnic table but the wind was very we sat inside the restaurant enjoying our lunch..

As we were leaving I noticed the restaurant next door and the chairs sitting on their patio..

now these look cozy?

..we ventured towards the ‘promenade’…wind was cold..not exactly a warm summer day..’Where are my gloves?”

IMG_0394 walk along the shore is complete without a token photo of the  ‘White Rock’..

White Rock is named for a distinctive large white boulder on its beach near the promenade, a glacial erratic that migrated south during the last glaciation.

The 486-ton granite boulder was kept white by shellfish-eating seabirds whose guano covered the rock, so much so that 19th-century sailors used it as a beacon. However, it is now kept white through monthly applications of white paint by the city parks department, and has been a popular graffiti target for over thirty years.

We have visited here many times over the past 30 years as a family but there is one reason why we don’t come here very often..

‘No dogs allowed’ on the 2.5 kilometer promenade..

We headed towards the famous pier..1500 feet long..IMG_0398

..only an hour to go before our parking expires..

IMG_0395 was a lovely day..

cost for parking $3.00

cost for lunch $25.00

quality time spent with my daughter.. $priceless

  1. What a great day you had..and that fish looked wonderful!!!

  2. A very good day in spite of the cold!

  3. $priceless day indeed ... you had a beautiful blue-sky day to enjoy mother-daughter day.

  4. Any day and any way spent with our daughters is priceless. So glad you had a wonderful visit.

  5. If only we had more free time to spend with our daughters (and sons). I'm glad your day turned out well. That fish looks delish!

  6. Thank you for the information about "White Rock". I have visited there a couple of times but never knew the reason for the name. Love to hear bits of history. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Wonder why the birds don't paint it anymore.

  8. Sounds like a very fun trip, and so nice to see the blue sky!

  9. Lovely day! The lunch sure looks great and those chairs next door are a kick. I noticed no one sitting in them though haha. Nice that you got to spend a day with your daughter.

  10. Where'd they get that fish from, a whale? Looks huge! Hope it tasted as good as it looked.

  11. I'd give anythng for lunch and a walk on a long dock with my daughter. You're right. You can't put a price tag on that. What kind of fish? Halibut? Cod?

  12. Can't remember being to White Rock, but we did enjoy staying in Delta, BC once and exploring Point Roberts, WA. Also the areas along the BC coast just to the north of that. My boss took me up to Campbell River once years ago. Drove from Federal Way, spent the night in Delta, BC, drove to Vancouver and flew up from there in one of the small commuter planes. Really enjoyed that trip. Her folks lived in Vancouver and she told me stories of Whistler, and lots of other interesting things to see and do. We've enjoyed Stanley Park, and took our first cruise to Alaska from the Vancouver cruise ship terminal years ago. Always loved that whole area, and wanted to get up and spend more time around there. Thanks for sharing the sunshine photos!

  13. Good tour of our 30+ year town. We'll return once we are done with having to store so many big toys.

  14. Nice tour of white Rock haven't been there in years, seems once we get to the Island we are stuck there.
