Back to the land of ‘red and white’

July 31st, 2013

Our last morning looking at the Methow River, while we had our morning ‘coffee’..

IMG_2172

Today was a travel day..third leg of our 2013 summer vacation..224 kilometers to our  next destination.

IMG_2173

We were all loaded up and popped down by 9:30..just a short drive today..

as we climbed to the top of Loup Loup Pass..one last look at the Methow Valley..

IMG_2174

..and then I noticed we had ‘hitchhiker’..

IMG_2177

..a spider had joined us for the journey, using Bart as a landing pad for his ‘spider web’..

Once we arrived at the top of Loup Loup..4020 feet..

IMG_2180

..we ‘kicked the spider ‘ to the curb …IMG_2179

We arrived in Omak, Washington about an hour later and stopped at the last USA Walmart, purchasing some of our groceries for our next stop..

A gas fill up in Oroville and we were crossing the border back to the land of red and white..

Thanks for the hospitality, USA..we enjoyed our stay..

IMG_2181

A quick stop in Osoyoos for some fresh produce and lunch and we headed up Richter Pass and down the other side into the Similkameen Valley..

IMG_2182

By late afternoon we had arrived at our next ‘home’ ..Riverhaven RV park on Highway 3, just west of the small town of Hedley, BC..

IMG_2196

..by dinner time we were all settled in our new spot..number 8

IMG_2185

..this is our view..

IMG_2186

..not too shabby..we could get use to this..

IMG_2190

Tucker went for a swim..

IMG_2183IMG_2184

Doug went fishing..caught one..IMG_2192

IMG_2193

..the park is pretty empty at the moment but since it a ‘long weekend’ in BC we know it will be full by Friday..

more to come from Riverhaven..stay tuned..

Why does ice-cream make you thirsty?

July 30th, 2013

Our last full day at Riverbend RV park..we really had nothing planned..

2013_07_30

Doug went fishing not once but twice..he went to the same beach we were at yesterday for a few hours this morning with no luck..

2013_07_303

and then he went this afternoon just down the river and managed to snag two little ones..

IMG_2161

We took Tucker to his favourite swimming hole for one last swim..

2013_07_301

I spent the afternoon knitting..same pattern as before with some new colours..red white and blue with some accent colours thrown in..

IMG_2153

..and we went into the town of Winthrop for a stroll..

IMG_2147

..and some Ice-cream..

2013_07_302..Doug had Methow Mud and I had Moose Tracks..

Tucker got a ‘baby cone’..hopefully he never noticed it was called that…it was gone in one gulp anyway..

IMG_2148

..late this afternoon we got some new neighbours from Kelowna, British Columbia and they had a four month old chocolate lab puppy..so cute..

2013_07_304

..hard to imagine that Tucker was ever that young..

We had our dinner and then started packing things up for  our next move..tomorrow..

I thought we were going to have a hitchhiker though..

IMG_2169

..a fine looking specimen..

IMG_2170

..good thing he did not have his passport..or the big town of Hedley, British Columbia would be in his future..

A ‘balancing act?’

July 29th, 2013

Truth be told some vacation days are better than others..and today was one of those days where we tried to ‘balance things out’..

We had a ‘visitor’ first thing this morning..

2013_07_29

..one hot air balloon rode right on past our little campsite..

I can remember seeing them the last time we stayed here but don’t remember it being this close..

Today we had no real plans…just the usual vacation stuff..

shower, laundry..take Tucker swimming at Twin Lake..

and then we went to the big town of Winthrop..

2013_07_291

We perused a few of the shops..Doug bought a few flies, an ‘orange frisbee’ for Tucker and a walking stick for himself..

…after we were kind enough to improve the economy of Winthrop we headed towards the Smoke Jumper Base…

IMG_2116

..we had been on a tour before and found it very interesting so if you are ever in the area this is a ‘must see’..

Next stop was the  Twisp River..

IMG_2118

..Doug will be trying his hand at fishing here tomorrow..

IMG_2119

IMG_2121

Tucker got to play in the water too..

IMG_2123

..a wildlife sighting..’oh deer’

IMG_2125IMG_2124

….once back at camp, Tucker,  was in need of a nap..you may laugh, but this dog would go and go and never stop..kind of like a hyperactive  3 year old..

IMG_2126

We had lunch and then Doug went fishing at the river in front of our campsite (he caught two small fish)..his walking stick came in handy..those rocks can be slippery and then there is the fast moving current just to make life interesting..need stay ‘balanced’..wouldn’t want to go for  a ride down the rapids!!

IMG_2128

This afternoon I noticed someone had been busy ‘balancing rocks’..

IMG_2129

Our day ended visiting with a new camper..Len from Pennsylvania..he is riding his bicycle from Seattle to Spokane..interesting man…will have to get his picture tomorrow..

The wind and the rain returned this evening, cutting our conversation short..

We are once again inside, the wind is blowing and the rain is coming down..

Maybe tomorrow the sun will be out?…that would be a perfectly ‘balanced day!’

Settling in..

April 16-26, 2017 The past ten days have gone by very quickly.. We got settled in the compound within a couple of days… The tent survi...
