A ‘sigh of relief’

July 26th, 2013

Some travel days go better than others..we left the comfort of our motel room in Lacey, Washington and headed into the ‘abyss’ known as rush hour along the I-5 corridor..

Tacoma, Seattle and Everett..not  one of them was very welcoming when it came to the ‘bright orange jeep and rolling white box’..

Some parts were ‘white knuckle’ driving..

..do those commuters not see us?..we thought we were ‘bright enough?’

We both breathed a huge ‘sigh of relief’ once we exited the I-5 and 405 and found ourselves on Highway 20..heading to our next stop..

..even Bart was happy..’are you looking at me?’..

a ‘new to us sign’ that starts the Cascade National Park..

..the drive through the ‘American Alps’ was a ‘curvy’ drive but much easier than those ‘fast moving’ highways!

..motorcycles seem to love this road..

waterfalls..

..and gorges..

..and a few tunnels..

..and then there is the ‘hair pin corner’ coming down off  the summit..if  you have ever driven this highway, you know which one I am talking about..

..as we came down the other side the temperature was in the 90’s .. a far cry from the 47 degrees, two days ago..on the Oregon Coast..

almost 400 kilometers….and

we saw the ‘Winthrop’ sign..

less than 10 miles to go..

and we were at our destination..

  1. The Alps sound a lot more fun that the interstates:)

  2. Commuters with cell phones glued to their ears don't even see our big bus barrelling down on them as they are pulling onto the freeway ... Mui's had to resort to his air horns quite a few times.

  3. Aye, that curve as you descend past the liberty bell ;), NATCOA does their fall colors rally in Winthrop every year, though we usually take over Silverline :).
