Kentucky/Alleyne Provincial Park

Fullscreen capture 23-May-2013 220725

We created our own long weekend by each taking a Friday and Monday off as vacation days. Destination Kentucky/Alleyne Provincial Park.

The weather forecast for the Merritt area?..not looking too promising?

Fullscreen capture 23-May-2013 221322

oh well, we aren’t made of sugar so we don’t have to worry about melting?

What’s a bit of rain?  70% chance it won’t rain on Friday and Saturday has a 40% chance of no wet stuff. The odds are not too bad?

We were up at o’dark thirty, not exactly what someone should be doing on their birthday, but so be it!

heading east towards the town of Hope..

IMG_1352

fuel stop at the new Flying  J..gas and breakfast, one stop shopping..

IMG_1353

..one bathroom stop at the visitor center in Merritt.. IMG_1356 and then about a half hour later we turned left onto Bates Road..

The Official Beginning..

The first long weekend of the camping season for 2013 is now done.

IMG_1281

It is the official beginning of reserving campsites, packing up and hitting the road to a great camping destination.

IMG_1330

Yes, we are what is deemed campers. Escaping the confines of our home, our jobs, and the ‘rat race’ known as life in the big city.

IMG_1283

A few days spent with the ‘big white box’ is good for what ‘ails you’. A weekend filled with campfires..

IMG_1301

quiet time..

IMG_1284

and enjoying all that mother nature has to offer..

IMG_1298

IMG_1289

..does wonders for those of us who have to ‘head back to work’ after some time away.

IMG_1286

IMG_1288

…some ‘s’mores’ were made..

IMG_1302

..and some ‘sandal’s were burned..a Doug and Toni’  yearly ritual.. IMG_1331IMG_1332IMG_1334

….a bed was shared with the ‘four-legged’ boy..sorry Carlie..

IMG_1314

..we even had some time for a ‘four-wheeling’ adventure…

IMG_1329

a narrow ‘goat trail’ ..destination?..

IMG_1327

..the lake wasn’t really blue..more green?..

IMG_1328

IMG_1325

..but Tucker went swimming anyway..he doesn’t care about the colour of the water..

IMG_1320

he just cares about swimming..

IMG_1316

..and chewing the bark off the trees..

IMG_1336

..so as this first official long weekend comes to a close..we can say we are ‘happy campers’..

IMG_1344

..even though this was our third trip so far this year, it was nice to pack up and ‘pop down’ a dry trailer..one can only hope that is the beginning of the better ‘camping weather’..

thanks for the hospitality, Doug and Toni..it was much appreciated!!
