A long way to go and a short time to get there?

Its been a while since I last posted..we have been a tad busy..

I know I have written before about the task of ‘purging’..

Organizing, selling, donating and disposing of unwanted and unneeded items..

We have gone through this a few times over the past six years but finally we are actually committed to accomplishing the ‘monster task’..

Why you ask?..well our ‘work camping jobs’ for next spring have been confirmed..

The lease on the condo we are renting is done February 28, 2015..

We now have a goal..

But where does one begin with this daunting task?…

for us it began with our daughter moving out..

The storage locker was emptied and all stuff that occupied that space was brought home..

sorted into semi-organized piles of  ‘sell , donate, dispose’

We have sold a few items  on Craig’s List already..

there is also all the ‘stuff in the trailer’....

my goodness the ‘mess keeps getting bigger and bigger’ and just a tad overwhelming..

But we figured we needed to  ‘move out’  before we could ‘move in’ in preparation for our ‘new life’..

I don’t really know if this was the ‘right thing to do’ but since we are basically trying to combine ‘two houses into one’ better to have all the ‘stuff together’..

..and then there is the time frame of moving out of the condo and into the trailer..

So we made the decision to bring our beloved ‘Freeway’ down to the coast and store him here for the winter so he will be accessible to us mid-February..

This should make the ‘transition’ at least a wee bit easier..

We made the trek to Keremeos this weekend..we had some work to do..IMG_3946

Bin after bin was loaded up..

and on Sunday morning we were hooked up and ready to roll..

IMG_3953 we say so long to our ‘home base’..

IMG_3954 time we park here ..our lives will be completely different..

as we headed west through the Hope-Princeton..the truck handled the mountain passes..’piece of cake’

Top of Sunday Summit..

..within a few hours we were ‘parked’ at our new storage facility..Freeway has a new ‘friend’ to keep him company for the winter..’ACE’ says ‘welcome to the compound’…’You will be safe here!’

..a quick stop for lunch and we were the real work begins..

..the ‘purge is on’…and we have  long way to go and a short time to get there!!

Better get busy!!

  1. Getting closer!!!
We purged a lot when we moved and even more once we got here. It's a difficult task for mer as I am a bit of a packrat.....Goodwill loved us though!
    Have fun!!

  2. I bet that once you have completed this task, it will bring you a greater sense of freedom. Good luck with the transition.

  3. That's big news! Does this mean that you will both be done with "regular" work next spring? You are wise to take the purging process seriously, but I can just imagine what a large task that would be. :-)

  4. So freeing to dump the goods...freedom right around the corner!

  5. We remember that daunting task when we SS out hose an began full timing. Good luck. Take your time an get I right the first time. Remember, I you keep it, you can always get rid of it later.

  6. The one thing to remember is no matter how hopeless the task of downsizing is, you WILL get it done. One step at a time, one box at a time, one room at a time and it happens. We've been there and we're pulling for you.

The ultimate goal is worth it! :c)

  7. Remember 1 2 3 4 5 - one goes. Next time 1 2 3 4 - one goes and so on and so forth. I know it's tough but believe me, in five years on the road, we may have said twice or three times "I wish we still had....".

  8. It is a lot of work and stress, but it will all be worth it:)

  9. A hard task indeed, but worth it to reach your freedom. Looks like you have the task well thought out. Hope we can meet up next summer. We have no regrets love our 5"er and looking forward to our fulltime lifestyle. Our best wishes to you both.

  10. Sounds like a huge task, but I know you'll get through it.

  11. I could NEVER get MacGyver to get rid of anything...He is a bit of an old fart about saving junk...and I know we will never full time..He just won't..But how exciting for you two ..a new adventure awaits!

  12. What Judy said. Exciting times, indeed!

  13. I've been in a year long purge myself, deadlines really help, so far I don't have one myself .... Good Luck!

  14. Oh my gosh!!! What fantastic news!!!!!! I remember so well when we went full-time and the job of purging...but you will get through it. You are so smart to start now!!
I just couldn't be happier for you two!!!!

  15. So happy to read about your plans! It's a lot of work, but so worth it. But you already know that. :)

  16. If you have any little end tables, small, good to sit like a cup of coffee on, but easily moved around vs being a larger end table that would sit along side a couch, you're welcome to send 'em to us, we'll take two :p.

  17. So excited for you, lots of work but it will be so worth it.

  18. We started with a big storage shed for the things that ended up in the "unknown disposition" pile.

  19. Good luck with the Purge, we know you can do it! Spring time work camping jobs?!
You guys are adventurous! But anything can be accomplished if you want it!

  20. An extremely daunting task for sure. Kelly & I have thought of it many times but we've just never been able to take that most important first step of purging. Now to make matters even more difficult we have 2 places. I think if we were about 10 years younger with the same health we had 10 years ago we could make it work. Good for you guys in organizing your goals for the future. I think that is the biggest accomplishment in moving forward with a new lifestyle plan....... All the best:))

  21. Where did you park her? I'm looking for a new parking spot for Tara over winter, where we are at is just TOO expensive....
