And this too shall pass..

Christmas 2014 is but a distant memory..

The tree is down..the lights are removed from the sundeck railing..decorations are stowed away, in the one bin that I have allotted for Christmas’s in the future..

Christmas day was a quiet once again..just the three of us..IMG_4032

The usual menu..

Eggs Benedict

and of course Turkey Dinner

Presents were opened..it was a minimal haul..the process of downsizing has effected my desire to purchase mountains of gifts…just couldn’t see the point in buying more stuff?

..a few gift cards and some small items rounded out the gift giving for 2014.

So now as 2015 is fast approaching..we both have some emails to send to our respective boss’s..mine are well aware of my retirement plans but Doug’s boss is in for a bit of surprise once he breaks the news.

Once this done..the pension papers will be mailed off and we will only have about 6 weeks till we move the trailer out of it’s  ‘storage space’..and into it’s February/ March home..

We still have some more items to rid ourselves of but the process is going quickly.

We have one last  pile for the local Value Village..

One pile for temporary storage in Keremeos..only till spring and then we will load some of it in the back of the truck to take to our spring/summer destination.

..and then there is the pile for the trailer..

That little mountain seems to be expanding..I keep telling myself..’just bring the essentials’….trying hard to think like a ‘minimalist’..

It works most days and we know the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ is much brighter than it was at the beginning of 2014.

I just know that in 45 days work will be done and then?..only time will tell..

This phase will pass and we will move on to the next one..

No one said it would be easy..and it won’t be perfect..

There  are no guarantee’s in life..

It has been a long road to get here..and we know that there will be some bumps along the way..but that’s okay.. we will be together..a team of ‘two’..

There is strength in numbers and we will lean on each other to deal with those ‘bumps’.

Happy New Year to all our readers..may next year be filled with good health and safely travelled miles.

  1. Did you mention where you will be in February and March? It must be exciting and just a little bit scary to begin this new chapter of your life. I wish you all the best!

  2. Time marches on and it looks like the time will be short and your dreams will start unfolding. It will indeed be a Happy New Year.

  3. Happy New Year and good luck as you enter this new phase! I hope it's everything you dreamed of . . . ours has not been without bumps in the road (currently on one right now), but the good definitely outweighs the bad! We haven't regretted it!

  4. Nice to see you folks working steadily towards your pre-planned & well thought out goal. A nice transition between lifestyles. We may even see you folks down here in the southwest next year. Exciting stuff happening in your lives. Neat-O:))

  5. Glad to see that you're getting closer to your planned goal. Getting rid of STUFF is really enlightening.
Like Al said maybe we'll see you down the road sometime.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  6. To me...time flies. You will be enjoying the good life before you know it!

  7. Happy New Year Sue and Doug--we wish you both all the best as you start this new adventure in 2015!!

  8. Happy New Years Sue and Doug, we are excited for you, 45 days Wow!

  9. Happy New Years Sue and Doug, we are excited for you, 45 days Wow!

  10. You've got a countdown now. Kind of like Times Square excitement. Happy New Year to you two.

  11. Hope you don't mind if I live vicariously through you two! I think downsizing is a wonderful idea ..MacGyver? not so much.DARN!

  12. You WILL love your new life! But remember, you are not really on vacation all of the time. There will be many just living days. Have to be or you would burn out and go broke. If you need inspiration, which at this point you might, just look at all the 2014 recap blogs! We sure did see a lot!

  13. Before you know it, that 45 days will be history! It should be a very happy new year for the two of you.

  14. Our best wishes this 2015 as you whittle stuff down to transition into the RV lifestyle. As taxing as the task may be, the rewards should make up for that.

  15. Being free of stuff was a great relief for us:)

  16. Onward and upward, 2015 will be your year! I can feel it .... Happy New Year#

  17. Your day is finally coming!! I am so happy for you both, and I know you will love your new life. Hang it there!

  18. Hope 2015 brings you all that you hope for. Happy New Year from Oregon.

  19. Final count down is on! Happy New Year and all the best in 2015!
Looking forward to seeing you in April!

  20. Oh Sue and Doug....we've been together for a long time and I know oh so well what it feels like to see a dream coming to life!! We are so happy for you guys!! Time will pass and you will soon be living what once was just a dream!!

Happy New Year to you both!!

  21. I find the transitioning the toughest - lots to do and think about. Not in one place or the other. You'll be good to go once the spring hits and you move on and then into the summer. It will be interesting to see where you go next winter! Wishing you a wonderful traveling New Year!

  22. Happy New Year and new Lifestyle ahead! I am so happy your day is nearing. I know about purging because we went through it last year when we moved to a smaller house. Nope...we won't be moving into an RV like we had hoped due to unexpected health issues. But we are still happy after ridding ourselves of all the extra stuff. Now just to keep it that way!

  23. Such an exciting time ahead for you guys. Looking forward to following your adventures! Cheers - Ellen
