May 7 and May 8, 2016
We are Ashcroft bound….a small town about 60 kilometers from Logan Lake..neither one of us have ever been there before so we thought a road trip would be a nice way to spend Saturday morning..yes, it was a ‘no work’ day..
On the way we stopped at the Tunkwa Day Use area..
..there is a boat launch, a bathroom and a garbage can..this area is also the responsiblility of the Park Operators..it needs a visit at least a few times a week..lots of fishermen use the boat launch area.
On the way into Logan Lake there is a fence decorated with baseball hats?..there is probably 25 to 30 hats..all perched on each fence post? We have no idea why?
16 kilometers to the T in the road..we turned right on Highway 97C..and the climb began..
We passed the Highland Copper Mine on the left hand side of the road..this is the largest open pit copper mine in Canada..
The elevation at this pull off was 1314 meters..the view of the Tailing Pond was amazing..
..but what goes up must go down..and Cinder Hill is an 11% grade..I don’t think I have every seen a hill with so many runaway lanes?..
8 kilometers down hill and into the village of Ashcroft..
….the village is located on the shores of the Thompson River..
..We found a place to park the truck ..stopping first at the Heritage Place Park..
and then we carried on down the main street..
....lots of heritage buildings..if only the walls could talk?
quite the historic town…and is worthy of a ‘stop’..
..time to head back towards home..back up the ‘hill’..so long Ashcroft…we may come back one day this summer!!
We stopped at the Highland Valley Copper Mine viewpoint..
Tucker ‘posed perfectly’…that’s our boy!!
..a quick stop in Logan Lake for a sandwich from the local ‘gas station’..and we headed towards home..
This evening Doug went for a walk after dinner..he visited the waterfall at the end of Tunkwa Campground..
..the sunset was amazing…
..I thought the cloud in the last image looked like a fish?..kind of fitting for here!
..so as the sunset keeps changing..we say good night from Tunkwa Lake..
First and foremost..Happy Mother’s day to my mom, my sister and all my ‘mom friends’..and all the moms in blogland..may you all have a great day!!
Two weeks from today we will be in the midst of the May Long Weekend so for now we will enjoy the ‘calm before the storm’..
We will be weeding around the picnic tables again and cleaning the vacated campsites as we go..
now in most ‘normal provincial parks’ check out is 11:00..but here things are much more relaxed..
We have a ‘new set of wheels’ for a few days..seems our ‘noisy beauty’ had some radiator/smoke issues and is heading to the repair shop on Monday..
This green truck is borrowed from Brian, the volunteer at Leighton Lake..the only thing about it is the fact that it is a standard..eek!! good thing Doug is willing to drive it..me? I can’t drive a standard!!
..the eagle was back fishing in the creek again today..
he is in the photo above..time for a zoom in..
the park is also full of Marmots..
so there you have our ‘calm before the storm’…the maintenance work continues…stay tuned..
