…Rockin’ and Rollin’

April 30, 2016

It’s time to leave the safety of Keremeos..time to move on and

get on with the next phase of our life..

002

Of course this phase involves working for the camping season.. but we are okay with that..we are looking forward to a new park and  new ways of doing things..

001

We are ready to roll and head out of the gates of Riverside Orchard..too bad Ron parked both tractors blocking our way out..

003

many thanks yet again for letting us call ‘your home our home’, Ron and Karen….see you in October!!

We had one stop to make before we could get on the way..the ‘dreaded sani-dump’ in Keremeos…the ‘bane of our existance..we have a few issues when ‘dumping here’ over the past year..but today we seem to have remedied the problem..longer sewer hose and don’t park so close to the sewer hole..

004

By 9:00 we were on our way..down the familar highway..’bucking the wind’..

005

it most certainly wasn’t an easy drive….cross winds, headwinds and a very bumpy road..

one quick stop at our usual ‘pepperoni’ store..

006

We turned off at the town of Princeton..

Mile zero of Highway 5

009

We stopped here to check things on the trailer and have a quick bathroom break..I had never noticed this marker before..

010

About 75 kilometers along Highway 5A..a windy, two lane highway with some elevation change..

011

012014

One left turn  onto the ‘Okanagan Connector’..and Hamilton Hill brake check was our last stop heading into the town of Merritt..

015

017018

It was strange to be back in Merritt..a familiar town with lots of memories..Not this time Merritt…Onwards…we have a different destination this year..

019

our turn off..heading towards Logan Lake..more climbing but a bit more gradual of an elevation change rather than taking the Coquihalla Highway..

020021

another bumpy road..seems to be the theme today..sure hope I packed everything away properly..

022023

Turn right at the stop sign..Logan Lake..turn left, Ashcroft..go straight across the road..Tunkwa Lake Road..

024026

..we lost our cell signal about 5 kilometers in..this will be the reality for the next six months..

027029

another compound for us..this one surrounded with barbwire..

Dave and Sherry are the managers here at Tunkwa..and we are the new neighbors and new workers…..We have water, power, satelllite tv and ‘park internet’..and an outhouse just on the other side of the fence..

033032

within a few hours of arriving we were basically set up..there will be some more adjusting done tomorrow but for now we are good…

031

no view of the lakes but that’s okay..we are here to work so I am sure we will see it plenty of times..

our phones are now being used as ‘paper weights’..as you can see they say ‘no service’!!

030

034035

We went for a drive before dinner to have a look at the park..

this is Tunkwa Lake..

036037

and the other lake is  Leighton..

038039

so there you have it…our new ‘home’ for the camping season..

If you are ever in the neighborhood please be sure to come on by..a little rustic camping is good for the soul..041

Friday, April 29, 2016

and the wind continues to blow..

April 27-29, 2016

We only have three more days till we head off to our Summer 2016 adventure..003so there is still more chores to be done..

Doug washed the truck..while I did a couple loads of laundry…

002

and he  also organized the items in the garage, getting them ready to load in the truck..we are planning on travelling a bit lighter this season!

We  contributed to the local ‘cat lady’..dropping off our refundable bottles and also we made a donation to the ‘Bargain Center’…we had a few items that we no longer were in need of..so hopefully they will go to a good home..

004

Wednesday night dinner we went to the Benja Thai Bistro on Main street in Keremeos..

benja-thai-restaurant

Our dinner companions were Lorraine and Greg..They have been Park Operators for the past few years, but most recently they worked at Kettle River Provincial Park..the one that was in the middle of the Rock Creek Forest Fire last summer..

09225956

It was interesting to talk with them about their experiences and to learn how different BC park contracters operate their parks…The campers that were camping at this park during the fire were very lucky that the group of workers had meetings every week with regards to ‘exit plans’ in case of an emergency..everyone knew what their role was and the calmness of the staff more than likely made what could have a been a ‘deadly situation’ have a good outcome…

Thanks for meeting us Lorraine and Greg..enjoy your summer working  at Twin Lakes!

Thursday morning there was a few farm chores to do and then we headed into Penticton for  some shopping and a ‘lunch/breakfast date’ with Russ and Barb..our former neighbors from Nkmip RV Park..

Tim Hortons was of course, the choice for our ‘date’..we chatted for a while over our coffee…everyone is heading off in different directions so it was nice to have one more visit before we all embark for the season..

005

Friday.. is our last full day in Keremeos..the wind is howling per usual..perfect day for one last load of laundry..should be dry in no time!

Hamburger soup in the crock pot for dinner..our ‘Last Supper’ with Ron and Karen..

I used my Pioneer Woman Cookbook

002

Her recipes are easy to follow along, I just improvised a bit and use the crockpot..

003

005

lots of vegetables to chop..

007

ready to go…sure hope it tastes okay!

010

This afternoon I also ‘cleaned the oven’..

017

018

it’s not perfect but it will do for now..

013

We loaded up the truck with our garage items..

only a few last minute items tomorrow to load in..

Doug put the hitch back on the truck..

015

The wheels will be rolling in the morning..next time you hear from us we will be about 220 kilometers from Keremeos..

Tunkwa Provincial Park…our work camping gig for 2016..the land of no cell service or mobile internet, but that’s okay we will be busy working…

stay tuned for more once we get settled….
